A teacher's salary commensurate with the success/demise of his/her students? In Denver, voters said YES, teachers must be accountable for the scholastic level of their students. Teachers whose students do badly do not get raises - their salaries stagnate. This is really good - for so many years, teachers did not have to worry about accountability. Lousy teachers were never blamed for their indifferent/apathetic students - these same students who would flourish under the tutelage of better teachers. John Kerry wants to set aside $9 billion for teachers in a plan to make this teacher accountability scheme a federal policy. Hooray for excellent teachers. I have so many fond memories of Mrs.Langseth (1stGr.) and Mr.Bell (5thGr.) On the other hand, I have pukey memories of abhorrent teachers, while there are ever so many more teachers who fall into the nether regions of forgotten oblivion.
