Once upon a time there was this rock 'n' roll band
Time went by and it became a joke
We just needed more and more fulfilling
Time went by and it all went up in smoke
Guns 'n' Roses - "Pretty Tied Up" (1991)
Don't try rules 'cos they do not apply...
The Wildhearts - "Nita Nitro" (1995)
So then...a quiet-ish week. And a quiet-ish weekend in store with the exception of a band rehearsal on Sunday. So far the new-look band, Timebomb (okay, so it's pretty much three quarters of the personnel of my previous band Brookside Riot Squad) seems to be going well - we're peddling a sort of Exploited/Blitz/GBH style thrash-punk and it seems to be coming together quite nicely.
...Unfortunately, earlier this evening I had to do something I didn't want to do - namely be a bit of a bastard to someone and I feel like shit for doing it.
The person in question is our ex-guitarist (who was in the last incarnation of BRS). He left the band a few months back basically because at the time he was going out with an absolute evil bitch of a gf who gave him the old "it's the band or me" ultimatum. Unfortunately, he caved and did the off on us although we all remained friends.
I didn't really think any more about it until last night when he left me an ansaphone message in the early hours asking me to call him. Which I did just now. Basically, she's confirmed all my worst suspicions about her by doing the off and ditching him and he was asking if he could possibly rejoin. Unfortunately, I had to tell him no as we've since got a new guitarist in who's settled in quite well and who I don't want to get rid of. I guess we could always go for the three guitarists approach but while that might work for yer industrial bands, it somehow doesn't sound right when you're a punk group.
I feel like an absolute bastard for doing this because he is a genuinely nice bloke and life's dealt him a real bugger of a hand over this - it must feel like losing a fiver and then being kicked in the bollocks or something similar. Have told him that if he wants to have a night out on Saturday at Rock of Ages then I'll be happy to accompany him and, if necessary I will happily take him to one of the lapdance clubs which seem to be springing up everywhere in Leeds to remind him that there are much nicer ladies out there than the swamp monkey who's just done him over. He said he'd think about it so I guess I'll be able to tell you all on Sunday what happened...
Other than that, not much new to tell - pub tonight, footy tomorrow, work is dull, pretty much the usual really. Hope everyone has a good weekend - see youse all on the other side of it.

daisie:
aww hehe thankies
Don't feel like a bastard though honey, he might be a lovely bloke and all but if you did let him re-join the band, you'd never know if he would toodle off again if he got another girlie who gave him the same ultimatum, but on the bright side you have your friendship which is always the most important thing!!

troubadour:
When you come back, bring pie!!
