Get together with my old friends
Once again we breathe in the air
Escape to somewhere far from nowhere
Where the sky's been tainted red
Hell Is For Heroes - "Night Vision" (2003)
So yes, it's official - I am on holiday. And I am lovin' it.
Brief summation of the last two days (Monday was work and ergo not very interesting) - yesterday, after finally sorting everything out with the bank, I went through to Manchester with the aim of doing some shopping. What I actually did was window shopping - I dunno why but it seems that place isn't as good as Leeds for CD's - there's two HMV's which aren't as big as the Leeds one and no Virgin Megastore. If there's anyone out there reading this from that neck of the woods (and I know there's a few of you so fingers crossed), can you recommend me a decent independent shop for the next time I find myself over there? Cheers.
Last night went to see Hell Is For Heroes over at the Cockpit and they absolutely shredded. Really good gig which bodes well for the new album next year. The support band, Aereogramme, are worth a mention as well not for anything they did musically (think a poor man's Queens of the Stone Age) but for the fact that they had a bass player who looked like he'd just joined from Saxon, a guitarist who was the dead spit of Bill Bailey and a lead singer who looked like Fran Healy with a meths habit.
Have submitted a review to the music site I work for and I'll post a link here if it goes up so keep checking back.
Oh, I learnt an important lesson last night as well - never espouse the opinion that Gene were better than the Smiths while in the company of a Morrissey fan. This will inevitably lead to either (a) the incurrence of their outright wrath or (b) long periods of stony silence for the rest of the night
. Ah well, 'least I know now... (goes back to put his well-worn copy of "Olympian" back on)
Today was spent getting a couple more gig tickets (Selfish Cunt this Friday - I'll be interested to see if they live up to the hype - and the '80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster a week on Friday) and then going through to York to pick up some beer from the excellent Beer Ritz shop (Hoegaarden for a quid a bottle! Oh my...
) and a birthday card and pressie for me mum (have got her a Rolling Stones live album which she should enjoy).
Tonight am possibly off to Bradford to get drunk with some mates but don't know for sure yet. One thing is for sure though, this break is doing me the world of good relaxation-wise.
Oh and if you haven't checked out India's new set then what's the matter with you? You blind or sumfink - go look at it now damn you!!!
Hope everyone else is having a good week - speak to y'all soon.

Enjoy your time off, dude. From the sounds of things lately, it's well needed.
