After eating I go out
The people passing by me shout
I can't stand this agony
Why won't they talk to me?
Madness - "Grey Day" (1981)
This isn't gonna go down in the annals as a particularly good week all told. So far, I've been accused by various people of being narrow-minded (for my taste in music inevitably), humourless (for not wanting to join a band that does comedy cover versions - sorry lads but I wanna make angry bastard music, not cover Avril fucking Lavigne in an ironic fashion thank you very much) and a hypocrite (again over my music taste). All of which are true I admit but it still doesn't make it any easier to listen to.
...and to make things worse, the students are back in Leeds this weekend. I don't have anything against students in general and the ones I'm friends with both on this site and through the music scene in Leeds are all thoroughly nice lads and lasses. But the downside is when your favourite bars get invaded by upper middle-class twits from places like Buckingham getting pissed and lairy and putting crap songs by "trendy" indie bands on the jukebox before they head off to one of the Beach clubs in Leeds to enjoy some '70s and '80s disco music in an "ironic" fashion (and remember the First Rule of Yorkie kids, irony is for wankers only). Again, maybe it's a sign that I'm getting narrow-minded as I get older but it still pisses me off...
...and just to make things even worse than that, a combination of financial shortages and other stuff have meant I can't afford to go drinking with Caz and India at Wendyhouse on Saturday...mind you, with the students all back this weekend I can imagine it would've been stupidly busy anyway but it's still a bummer.
But on the other hand...this weekend is Otley Beer Festival meaning I don't think I'll miss going to the city centre all that much. And a some things arrived through the post from Amazon today which have made me happy. Regardez:
...ah well, I have beer, I have Gamecube, I have book and I have punk and ska CD's...I guess I might just make it through this weekend without kicking myself too much...
See you on the other side everyone...oh and don't forget Sunday is National Talk Like A Pirate Day! Yarr!
