Inglorious, so make a few steps
Scare the shit out of A&R reps
With sex and sin and songs that sting in all of us
Inglorious...
The Wildhearts - "Inglorious" (1994)
Not been the best of weeks so far to be honest...a rundown of good and bad things that have happened with the bad things first:
- Listening to Goldie Lookin' Chain's album out of curiosity in HMV yesterday. Sheesh, that was crap. Yet more proof that irony is comprehensively for wankers only and also that there really is only one Mike Skinner.
- The fact that things still seem to be going nowhere with regards to getting a new band together. I think the problem is that I have a very clear and precise idea of the sort of band I want to be in...or more precisely the sort of band I don't want to be in. For a start, I don't want to be in a band of muso's because I'm a punk rocker and a firm believer in the whole "get in there, say what you gotta say and get the fuck out again" ideology. Secondly, I don't want to be in yet a-fuckin'-nother band that wants to be Leeds' answer to the Chilis or Green Day. It's been done to death, just leave it be.
So what sort of band do I want to be in? Something exciting for a start. Ideally, we'd have the attitude of the Cockney Rejects or Angelic Upstarts (ie mess with us and we'll smash ya into the ground), the versatility of groups like the Specials, the tunes of the Buzzcocks and the anger of the Clash. Surely there's got to be three other people out there who think that would be a good idea? It's a long shot but onwards I shall trek even though my hopes are fading...
And now the good things:
- Finally plucked up the courage to say hello to a very nice looking lass who works in the department next to mine and started a few weeks ago today. She seems to be a nice girl and I did make her laugh with one of my comments about the place we work at which is a good enough start. Who knows...maybe she'll take up my offer of coming to the pub with me and a few of the others in the department tomorrow?
- The new Music and Green Day singles. Great stuff because they sound very little like what you'd come to expect from these two bands. Both well worth checking out if you see 'em.
- New Therapy? album out on Monday! Yay!
- ...and I might be going for a drink with Caz at the weekend which is something to look forward to.
That's all for now. Enjoy the rest of yer week peeps.
