I been to the edge
And there I stood and looked down
You know I lost a lot of friends there baby
I got no time to mess around
Van Halen - "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" (1978)
So this'll be the last update for a few days. Not 'cos I'm in a crap mood again (been there and done that this week) but just 'cos this weekend is a bank holiday and I intend to make full use of it - hence I won't be online that much.
We did our second gig of the week last night and happy to say it went a lot better than Monday's disaster (see previous entry). It initially didn't look that way as the promoter had somehow managed to double-book us with a meeting for security staff for the Leeds Festival (oh how tempted I was to dash in there and nick a backstage pass or two!!) but fortunately they were finished by half seven so we were able to get in, do some lightning-speed soundchecking (thanks to one of the bands' guitarists also being a soundman during his spare time), clear everything up and get the show on the road. And, not only did we make a profit on the night (the first time THAT'S happened in a fair bit I can tell you) but it was also an excellent gig even if the headliners did succeed in blowing up their bass amp halfway through leading to their set being cut short - we've promised 'em a second gig if they want it). We also found out that one of the people running the venue went to school with one of the other lads at the agency so it all bodes well. Hopefully, Primitive Promotions has just found its new home.
Plans for this weekend then - well, tomorrow is payday at long bleedin' last so a few beers are in order I think. Saturday I'm off into Leeds to nab meself a cheap DVD player (they've got 'em for 50 at one of the shops in town) then heading to "Rock of Ages" in the evening (where the song quoted at the top of this entry will be requested along with "Fear Of The Dark", "I Wanna Go Where The People Go", "Seven O'Clock" etc, oh yes
...well, unless emogirl comes along with me in which case I may ask for VH's "Dance The Night Away" so the two of us can have a nice slow smooch on the dancefloor in true early '80s teen flick style hehe
) for muchos old-skool metal headbanging, JD/Nuclear Broon/Jagermeister drinking and general tomfoolery.
Sunday I fancy a day outta dodge so I'm gonna head for the coast and go to Scarborough for fish 'n' chips and ice cream and some sea air. Then Monday, I'm off on the traditional Bank Holiday pub crawl with the boys - should be good (if slightly messy) fun.
At a guess I should be back here middle of next week (though don't worry, I intend to get fully up to date with my comments before I go) so hope everyone has a top weekend and speak to you all soon.
Laters,
Yorkie
Oh and PS - to anyone who's off to the Leeds/Reading festivals this weekend I would just like to say - yer bastids.
