And as the daybreak fell flat upon its face
The iron sky came creeping up behind to take its place
And the rain fell like bullets from a gun
And the sky came and swallowed up the sun
So I buttoned up my coat
And I went out for a walk
Beneath the iron sky
Mega City Four - "Iron Sky" (1993)
I write this in the middle of one of the biggest most fuck-off thunderstorms I have seen in ages. Honest to God, it feels like someone's deposited half the Atlantic Ocean up in the sky above my house.
Been quite a busy week so far surprisingly. Monday night made the short trip down to Huddersfield to see the mighty Pools gain a much-needed 2-0 win. Blackpool at home on Saturday who are currently bottom of the table with zilch points from three games and who last week lost 4-0 at home to Stockport so hopefully an easy three points there (he says with his fingers crossed
).
Last night I went to the Horrorpops/Dead Pets gig over at the Rocket which was...well, okay. On the one hand, the DP's were as good as ever - top set, lots of kids going mental down the front, covers of songs by Cock Sparrer and Jerry Lee Lewis, Sweeney (the singer who some of you might remember from "Faking It") climbing on to the amp stacks during a song called "Uncle Fester The Child Molester"...all good fun.
The Horrorpops on the other hand...hmmm, not so sure meself. On the one hand, top stage show (Elvira lookalike girl singer playing the double bass, two Suicidegirl-lookalike dancers, one guitarist who looked uncannily like Tommy Lee from Motley Crue and another who looked like one of the Misfits gone psychobilly but on the other hand (and here's the rub) I'd be hard-pressed to call any of their tunes "memorable". Sometimes all the gimmicks in the world won't save yer if the songs ain't up to scratch folks, sorry.
Off to the pub quiz tonight then a quiet rest of the week in store due to lack of finances.
Ah well, only nine days till pay day now, gotta look on the bright side.
Hope everyone's okay - speak soon.
