Well I'll console myself that this life is throwing spears
But there's a growing of the spirit deep inside
In the part of me that feels her getting near
Trying patiently to brave this great divide
And if I fall I won't look down
I'll face the sky and be here second time around
To practice this balance I've found
The Wildhearts - "Beautiful Thing You" (1994)
So, the first half of the week is over. Surprisingly it's not been so bad either. Quick summation:
MONDAY: Went to work. Also went into town on my lunch break and bought a batch of new singles. One/two sentence verdicts below:
The Bees - "Horsemen" Weird skewed rockabilly type stuff. Quite liked it.
The Barbs - "Bury You" More odd stuff - bit like a lo-fi Ramones. In the words of Justin Hawkins, it's growing on me.
Tokyo Dragons - "Teenage Screamers" Like the Darkness if they'd grown up with Judas Priest instead of Queen. Not bad all told.
Surferosa - "Lucky Lipstick" Synth-rock with some truly ill-advised shrieky female vocals. Don't do it kids.
Razorlight - "Golden Touch" The Libertines if they'd spent more than 22p on production for their last album. Average.
Also went to a gig by some local punk bands - pick of the bunch were the Mingers who played some truly furious stuff and were all the better for it and the Fuckest Uppest who sounded like Leeds' answer to the Exploited. Which is always a good thing trust me.
TUESDAY: Bugger all happened apart from me getting to world 3 on "Super Monkeyball 2" and finally getting some work done on my punk website (currently a work in progress) So not a total waste of a day then.
WEDNESDAY: Emogirl texts me at work and asks if I fancy going out to Star with her on Friday. Yes, yes and thrice yes! (does happy dance round room).
And tonight, off to the Well in Leeds again to see another local band who are our mates called All It's Worth (think a less growly and slightly more angsty version of the Distillers - ah well, I like 'em anyway).
Rest of the week - dunno yet, I'm too excited about Friday night hehehe.
Have a good 'un you lot - speak soon.
