I spent a month in Palmdale one week. I've got a friend building a school out there right now--he works for CalPacific Construction. Did you see the huge pileup on 14 due to the dust storm yesterday? Nasty. I wouldn't live in the Antelope Valley on a dare.
I won't be able to make it to Laguna Seca--I've got a client coming in from Denver to go to Mexico for a buying trip--stone mantles for their fireplace, fountains, etc. If they weren't such an important client to me, I'd bail. Oh, well. I'll be there for the Champ Car race next Summer, at least.
That motorcycle graveyard is something. Is it a pick-a-part place?

This might help you with why. Great book. It would seem that in large part it is human nature to control others, and that all of us are suceptable to acting in this fashion. It also seems that only through constant reminders of the lessons of the past, say Auschwitz and Rawanda, do a few exceptional people manage to rise above this baser desire and remain true humanitarians. Morality is thought to be instinctual on some levels, but it is largely taught and they've found that as a defense mechanism, all of us are capable of switching it off to cope with the situation. Now imagine being raised generation after generation to believe that you are better than everyone else who wasn't born into affluence like you, that the teeming masses of the worlds population were no better than animals, ignorant and directionless. You might believe that it's your place to mould them into something productive and full of purpose, and vision.
I've been trying to cope with this knowledge for 10 yrs now, and up until recently my defense mechanism has been denial. Once your eyes have been opened it is difficult not to see it everywhere you look. We are not truly free, we are trapped as surely as any slave, working only to survive, while the spoils of our labour goes to serve our owners.
I have two children, and my struggle now is wether or not to "wake them up" to lifetime of sleepless nights and heartbreak, or allow them to remain blissfully ignorant to truth. Because that is how we all can cope.
Denial.
Or... there are people working hard against this, the makers of those movies, for example. There are people doing some amazing things, like Neo in the Matrix. That's what the videos are about. WAKE UP WORLD, lets all wake up, and start to fight.
i'm going to nyc, geneva and barcelona, back to nyc and then back to here
