okay, so the UK government are putting our 'safety' as a top priority. Strong powers are to be given to government agencies to create national anti-terrorist agencies. The right to a trial in front of a jury can be removed in certain circumstances.
I don't understand what the supposed terrorist risk is? You have to back to the days of the good old IRA to start to find cases of people dieing as a result of terrorism on UK soil.
However, someone dies in the uk approximatly every 5 minutes from heart disease. Is the goverment going to set up a national 'flab fighting' agency with the power to imprision kebab shop owners? Are we all running scared from the man at the local chippy, because in reality, he's thousands of times more likely to kill you then any terrorist is.
On a slightly contradictory note, I am in favour of a national identity card scheme. Not for 'national security', but simply because it would make so many things in life more simpler. Registering at the doctors, buying things on credit, claiming benefits etc.
I have no problem with 'big brother' watching me, in fact I would be happy to know that they are. I would make sure that I do stuff to make them watch. Check out books from the library on 'So you want to make a bomb out of nitrate based fertilizer, glucose and diesel?'
And yes, I do accept we all have to die sometime, and a lot of people dieing from heart disease are apparently healthy. Maybe you will get hit by the bus driven by the chip shop owners brother who was rushing to see his brother in prison where he was incarcerated without any form of trial for frying chips of mass destruction.
Still, this is my best rant yet on here I feel all clever now. Better go and watch some reality tv.
