This is my fate every spring. I'm not sure if it's the wooden bedroom set my parents bought me when I was little that I'm too stubborn and cheap to get rid of, or the extra large window that becomes a haven for creepy crawlies everytime it rains. Either way, there they are without fail to greet me every spring like the Easter bunny.
Carpenter ants, vary in size and color but are usually large (1/4-1/2 inch) and blackish. They are also one of the most difficult ants to control. Occasionally, swarms of winged carpenter ant reproductives will emerge inside a home. Carpenter ant swarms usually occur in the spring and are a sure sign that a colony is nesting somewhere inside the structure. Winged carpenter ants can be distinguished from termites by their larger size and shape of their antennae, waist and wings.
In case you haven't noticed, they're fucking big. So now I share my bed with these lovely little beasts, spraying away to my heart's content, to no avail. They get on my TV while I'm catching up on my TiVoed shows, they bug me while I'm reading, and they make my room smell like shit everytime I try to spray them. I've given up spending money on Orkin, they just come back.
My nose also hates spring, I had to leave work 2 hours early because my allergies were just kicking my ass. So I finished my work and just headed home to the comfort of my bed (and my carpenter ants). I'm feeling better now though, I guess the soothing smell of insecticide is helping.
I still need to do my taxes, and the family friend that usually does them is too busy. I understand, I wouldn't have asked him this late if I didn't just get all the info myself. I guess I'll have to schedule an appointment with good ol' H&R.
I like writing news articles. I wanted to apply to be an editor when the positions were available, but I knew my inherent lazyness would not make me a good candidate. Still, I have fun submitting them and I get points for doing it so it's a win/win there. Check out the newswire for the stories I've submitted.
I got 2 hours sleep last night, so I'm back to weird patterns. I can't shake it, and I'm not at all tired right now. I tried to go to sleep early, (sorry Judy, I really was planning on going to bed!) but if I skip the right moments where I'm crashing I'll just stay up.
Last night around 3 am I went to Rey's Pizza. If you check the Nocturnal group I posted shortly after joining that I was looking for a place to hang out after hours. Where I used to live there was an awesome Cuban restaurant open 24/7, here there's not much more than a Denny's that charges $12 for an egg sammich.
My mom treated me to Rey's Pizza recently, and I remembered they were open 24/7, and they serve the best pizza and spaghetti. I have a theory that I can only really enjoy Cubanized dishes, even those of other countries. I think my dad makes the best Chinese food, better than I eat at Chinese restaurants. I determined it was because he used different kinds of spices that I'm used to. Same with Italian food, when I went to NY I was disappointed by "real" NY pizza. I guess I like it the way I grew up eating it. there's a whole conversation here about this very subject.
This is yet another reason why I don't think I can ever really leave Miami and be happy. How do you do it Mnislahi?

Beach, CA we had a new trail of them every morning coming down our living room wall from the window...no matter how many we killed the night before...no matter how much voodoo anti-ant chalk we drew all over our walls...we still just ended up with a wall of bad graffiti and a gazillion ants - and on the allergy note - this season is just flat out kicking all of our collective asses. Chin Chin!
