Today I was informed that it was my last day at work. They would pay me for an extra week, but I didn't have to come in, just answer questions over the phone about whatever they needed. It was kind of like getting fired, except I had already quit. Very odd.

For a while now I felt like they didn't know what to do with me. I had informed them I was leaving almost a month ago, and I was stripped of most of my duties almost immediately, so I spent the last few weeks doing odds and ends and really not much of anything. I wonder if they finally decided I was more of a distraction than anything.

I have to admit I did get a little teary eyed while I cleaned out my stuff and put it in my car. I was with this company for four years; their first employee. When I joined it was only two guys in an apartment, and later a 200 sq ft windowless closet. As I leave, there are over a dozen employees in a 1500 sq ft office.

I helped shape what the company is today. I signed many of its clients, including its biggest. I defined its web and online marketing strategy, was involved in virtually every decision, and provided the keystone of its web services from its inception. In a way it's kind of like my company that I'm leaving.

But it's not, and I'm not at all regretful of my decision. If anything I should've done it a long time ago, and I've paid a price for waiting this long to finally move on. So here's to bigger and better things, or at least, different ones.
