Save "The Docks Nightclub" Petition
As some of you may or may not know,
The AGCO, on Monday July 24 2006 @ 5:00P, revoked The Docks Nightclub's liquor license due solely to an issue over sound complaints made by the residents of the Toronto Island. The Toronto Island residents had long complained about the noise of the city, The Docks nightclub being on particular waterfront venue, coming over the water into their residential community. The Docks has chosen to appeal the matter. If the appeal is granted, then The Docks will be able to remain open until the case is finalised and one last decision is made. If the appeal is denied, then The Docks will be forced to close its doors once and for all.
The Docks has been a very large part of Toronto for the past 11 years. As a multi-functional entertainment complex, The Docks has been enjoyed by tourists, clubbers, ravers, families, sports enthusiasts, corporations, as well as many other Toronto citizens and outsiders looking for a bight to eat, a place to tan, a little swim or some fun on the midway. The Docks is one of Canada's largest nightclubs and functions as a seasonal club venue, patio restaurant, drive-in movie theatre and large activities ground during the summer. Year round it functions as a special events venue, a concert hall, a home to corporate events, a driving range and mini-put and the occasional club/rave event.
The Toronto Island residents live on an island not even 1km off the shore of Canada's largest city and the most industrious part of that city's waterfront. The residents live tax free on the island and seem to expect a form of cottage life on this island. If this is a sign of things to come and the power of the island, then you can only imagine where they will strike next; The Guvernment nightclub, The Kool Haus concert hall, The Molson Amphitheatre, The Harbourfront Centre, and many more. The Docks is a truly large and extraordinary organisation, and apparently both size and community relations are two factors that do not matter anymore. If they can close us down for sound, there is no stopping them on closing many other smaller clubs, bars and pubs down for much smaller infractions.
My name is Justin Schaefer and I am the head of audio/ resident audio engineer at The Docks. If we get closed down, I will be among well over 350 employees whom will lose their job, their career, their family and their home. All of us at The Docks, especially myself, ask that you help us in this matter. Help us fight the AGCO and show the island that you cannot expect cottage country life in the middle of Canada's largest city. Show the mayor that this will not be tolerated and help us stay open!
