It is strange though because you'd thing out of a instinctual need for genetic variation we wouldn't be attracted to similar looks (or rather ethnicities).

I heard something (again from a "I cant remember" source) that you are more attracted to pheromones of the unlike ethnicities for this reason. Silly hitler and his dreams of inbreeding. Although humans are already pretty inbreed, thats why we need variation.

But my guess is it has more to do with the Oedipus and Electra complex, as they say girls are always subconsciously looking for someone that reminds them of their father, and guys are supposedly doing the same with there mother. Yikes. Although Freud was a dirty pervy old man, and he liked to blaim the subconscious for all sorts of sexual perversities.

Maybe its a narcissistic urge. One of my favorite movie quotes when I was single (from this movie you might like called four eyed monster) "They have four eyes. They have two mouths. They have eight limbs that wrap around themselves in narcissistic self adoration. IIt's disgusting. And I can't help but envy them." I mean part of a relationship is self love, I mean, it's a union to ideally make YOU and thus each other feel complete, initially at least it's from a place of selfishness and out of personal needs/fulfillment even though the genuinely wanting to please the other develops, but mostly out of a symbiosis, and essentially selfish desire to maintain a extension of yourself. Ranty, rant.
