Paradox

desperate-
it's a very lonely word
for a very lonely soul
in a very lonely world

desolate-
that one comes a bit closer
with a little more clarity
the feeling is conveyed

she thought to hold on
she meant to remain
she never imagined she'd slip so far

her cry is muffled
her thoughts muddled
her emotions - ah, her emotions

sometimes at the surface
sometimes hidden
she has no control

desperately desolate?
does desolation come first?
or does desperation, in time, become desolation?

lack of will
no fight left
some would say empty

but there is pain
she feels a longing
for something she can never have

she reaches, even now
for peace
for an end to the cycle

conflicted-
that describes the start
pulled this way and that
a state of discord

fractured-
she is a broken spirit
a split soul
seeking, always seeking

but what? atonement? no.
she seeks the struggle - she seeks the end
she makes no sense
