I am pleased with how well the semester is going. School actually seems energizing, which is good, I think I was stuck in a rut. My set is done too, just need to get the damn thing to submit right, but it keeps giving me stupid errors, and it doesn't seem to want me to post a question to ask y it won't work for...

Bearing in mind I don't know any Latin to speak of, I'm guessing that the translation of "cogito ergo sum" as ""I think therefore I am" leaves a little to be desired.
I'd guess that "thinking is being" would be a better translation into modern English; that is, Descartes is echoing Socrates (IIRC), "the unexamined life is not worth living".

I am probably completely wrong smile

Ah only one weekend left before school...

Soon it will be time to work my ass off with useless dribble to earn a piece of paper that will allow me to do other stuff for other pieces of paper, these which happen to be green.

I believe u, Malcolm, I understand the importance of being educated...

Just one quick thot jumped into my mind:

"A house divided upon itself cannot stand." ~Lincoln

Strangely, it occurs to me that this quote is very much like "He who troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind."

*Thinking*

I wasn't aware of any connection with V for Vendetta

but I loved that movie - so I'll take it as a compliment

I think these are very telling quotes for the present political scene. I fear the Democrats though newly in power are divided and will squander this opportunity to accomplish the good that they were elected to accomplish

I wish that this Congress would take the current energy crisis seriously - as I think it is a matter of national security, and not just a matter of global warming

I hope this makes sense

I wish you well

For a day with snow, its a beautiful day outside. Sun and blue skies, barely brushed some snow from my windshield. We had slightly less snow on new years eve, and thats it for the year. This from the same place that it snowed the first week of November 2 years ago. That year there were several occasions in which we had lots of snow,...

Hey sweetie, saw your post in the pagan group. Horus is a sky god, nae goddess of love.

Egyptian love goddesses would fall under Isis or perhaps Hathor, or several other minor deities

The Bene Gesserit Littany Against Fear:
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing....

love the words you have assembled here

it is true that a broad swath of evangelical and catholic christians are pretty far from Christ.
take my parents, for example, hard core catholics who believe that life begins at conception and extol the sanctity of life when it comes to abortion, but are in favor of the death penalty

christians are a bloody war-mongering lot - mind you, they justify their bloodthirstiness with notions like Just War etcetera but the fact remains that they are about as intolerant a class of bigots as the islamic mullahs they wish to eradicate

I think the lack of intellectual leadership is the result of our corrupted and bankrupt age

I was speaking to a friend about the current lack of heros, and he stated that there are intelligent people discussing the issues just like me and him. To which I posed the question why doesn't someone like us become a leader? After much discussion we came up with two main reasons: confidence and sacrifice, which I would like to discuss. Confidence: funny, to say...

O captain, my elusive captain! (yes, I am the person who stood on the table and saluted the teacher at the end of Dead Poet Society, lol) Oh were there any reality to that movie. Oh were there truly a hero to follow, even if only for a year. I think of being a teacher like that, but then I realize that if I continue...

Ug, I haven't been on here for way too long. Been working on short stories, celebrating New Years, and was a bit under the weather for a few days. But here I am, now that I have writers block lol. I was going back in my xanga reading old stuff. I used to write some great streams of consciousness. I really should get back into...

loud and proud - that seems to be your style

I like it

tell me about these days of silence - it seems like an interesting form of political expression

questions questions

what school do you go to in these parts: RPI .... I'm just guessing

I'm currently working on a Bachelor's degree in Classical Language at Suny Albany and soon to be completing my Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at RPI

curiouser and curiouser am I about you
abunai:
Thanks.

The day of silence is for LGBT rights. U try to go the whole day without talking and when people talk to u u give them these cards that explain what ur doing. The idea is that ur prepresenting all the voices that have been silenced by homophobia. It really works best if u do it at a job where u deal with lots of different people all day, like when I was working at that toy store.

Are there any other ivy league schools around here?

Classical language and MechE interesting combo. What drew u to those majors?

Ask away, can't always promise I'll answer, but like u said, loud and proud tends to be my style. smile
