For a day with snow, its a beautiful day outside. Sun and blue skies, barely brushed some snow from my windshield. We had slightly less snow on new years eve, and thats it for the year. This from the same place that it snowed the first week of November 2 years ago. That year there were several occasions in which we had lots of snow, like a few feet, and the snow lasted until febuary, enough that I went sleding on Imbolc (Feb 1 or 2). That was my first winter up here and people told me that winter was mild. And people dont believe in global warming, scary. Then again more people believe in creationism over evolution today than since the 1950s! Im not sure which is more worrisome. Well anyway, global warming: Im divided on how severely to react. Some part of me thinks that waiting until global warming is obvious, like with the melting of greenland and the natural disasters which will follow will have more results than trying to get people to fight things they can't see, as callous as that may be. Unfortunately while disasters like that can inspire great political change, no one can predict which way it will go. Altho scientists can prove the huricane Katrina was made much more severe by the effects of global warming, many people blame "god" for the disaster. I have even heard remarks that blame homosexuals for the event, saying that "god" (generally the Christian god) is punishing the city for allowing homosexuals. Which is really funny, cuz even if that weren't ridiculaous, ud think that an all knowing god would have been intelligent enough to hit san fransico first if gay people were his target. This is another thing I dont get. How can people believe in a god that would do such things, and still worship him/it/whatever as good? One of the *big* things that got me to start looking at other religions (I was raised Catholic) was the fact that the Christian god doesn't seem good. What good god would send anyone to hell with no chance of redemption? I dont care what they did, nothing deserves that. Especially when the silliest things are considered sins by people. Of course, I was raised in a very traditionally Christian family and my dad was the first person in his family to even go to college, so in light of meeting some intelligent Christians, I understand that it is mostly a case of the majority religion being twisted by people who don't understand it. I mean, thinking that the Bible is litterally infallible doesn't work, the Bible contradicts itself. The new testiment throws out many of the barbaric things in the old testiment like that its a sin to eat shell fish, talk to a woman while shes on her period, 30 days after the birth of a male child and 60 days after the birth of a female child. Incidentally all of those old testiment laws I just mentioned, which most Christians will tell u are no longer followed because jesus threw out the old laws, are in leveticus right next to the most often quoted line to prove homosexuality is a sin "thou shall not lie with a man as one would with a woman." Theres also a nice little line about witchcraft in leveticus that some Jehovah's Witness kid felt necessary to post as a comment on my xanga. I wrote him a nice lil email explaining that since Im not Christian the Bible doesn't hold much weight with me, and what I believe and y. I also made sure to be very polite and tell him that I respct his choice of religion as much as I would hope him to respect mine. I find that "kill 'em with kindness" is a good way to react to that kind of shit. Anyway I have gone on a huge, tho interesting tangent, but Id like to get back to global warming. To fully discuss my thots on Christianity it took 50 pages (me and 2 of my friends were working on a book about how teens viewed controversial topics such as religion, by the time we finished with Christianity, however we had calmed down alot and the project kinna died). So yeah, anyone seen An Inconveniant Truth? I must say, I didnt expect to be, but I was impressed. Gore never stuck me as exactly intelligent... he didn't strike me as down right moronic like Bush either, but Gore never seemed to voice his opinions very loudly. Finally seeing that theres something in there is nice. Im sad about his stolen election victory all over again, lol. Still, Im not sure if action should be taken now, or if it is more likely that shit will actually get done if we just get ready to step in when shit hits the fan. Plus due to the fact that Gore has technically lost before, it makes him a poor canadate for president, even tho by the movie Im guessing that hes thinking about it. Really Id like to see Hilary run. I think she could win, and Im not alone, there have been several articles about it from both sides of the fence. I love the conservative ones, there all like "Hilary could win! We must start fighting her now! Oh no shes *FEMALE*!!!" LMAO. But seriously, in her last senate race she did alot of unnecessary campaigning in the canservative parts of ny and won the state by some insane margin like 80%. That means she talked to alot of conservative people and convinced them to vote for her, and Im talking seriously conservative, upsate ny is almost as bad as like alabama. Of course, since Im from pa originally and its a swing state I choose to vote there and with the exception of Rudy Guiliani, the only pro-gay marriage republican like ever, I would prolly vote democrat no questiosn asked. Id hafta think about it and really weigh the people if Guiliani ran. I could see the republicans restructuring after the democratic tidal wave last november, like the democrats did in the 60s, going form the conservative party to the liberal party overnight by offering racial equality. Repubilcans do have the possibility of doing the same thing by offering gay marriage, I think. I just don't know if they'll do it. Of course, the democrat could difuse that by offering gay marriage too, but might get some backlash from flip fliopping, but I could totally see them making up some touching moment finding out a family member is gay or hearing the sad story of some gay person who couldn't even see his/her partner while they were dying because of the lack of those specific rights which are covered by marraige and grandly changing their mind. Im sure they could find a way to spin it. Perhaps its just wishful thining tho. Anyway there is my rant for today. Fight the power, ya'll. Peace.
