I tried out for a play yesterday! It felt soooooo damn good to just audition. I haven't been in anything in 7 years. I will know Thursday whether I got the part. It isn't paid, of course, just community theater. BUT, if I get the part, I can get others which will lead to others, which will lead to others....and maybe I will just say fuck it and move to LA or NYC like I should have a long time ago, instead of pissing around. I mean, teaching is great and all, but the theater is where my passion is. I don't really know why, but I guess we rarely do know why we are passionate about anything. We just are. I wish I had some means of supporting myself so that I could just take off and go places like I see some people on here. I just read Radeo's blog, about going to California for a while. I'll be able to do stuff like that. Set it out to the world, and you can achieve it. Thats why I know I'm going to be playing Paris in the Raconteur Theatre Company's production of Helen of Troy. Because I'm willing it and putting it out there to the universe. Create your own reality, punk!
I started reading William Burroughs' Naked Lunch a couple of days ago. It is absolutely amazing. In a stream of consciousness heroin addict sort of way. I notice that a lot of heroin addicts tend to be phenomenal lyricists and writers (see William Burroughs, Nick Cave, a myriad of other musicians).
If you've never read Burroughs or Nick Cave, do yourself a favor this summer. While you are on the beach, in LA or , buy a copy of And the Ass Saw the Angel to read. You can thank me later.
