What an awesome weekend. Friday night, went over to my friend Sully's, and we just got absolutely stoned out of our minds and mindlessly read comic books till we were nearly passing out. Then Saturday I sadly had to work at the bar. I was making pretty good money, then the entertainer had to leave because her friend that was with her had a heart attack and had to go to the hospital, so after only having entertainment for half the evening, I still made some pretty good money. Sunday, ah, what a glorious day. I got pretty stoned again, and my sister and I just hung out at home playing cards, eating, and nothing more. Watched bits and pieces of the super bowl, but we weren't really that interested. I am happy that the Patriots won and all, but tomorrow is going to suck for me, mainly due to the fact that they won. My office is right across from Boston's City Hall ... and there is a parade tomorrow that finishes in City Hall Plaza, which happens to be in front of my office. This leaves me with the problem that I will not be able to leave my office during that time because they clog the entire area up with thousands upon thousands of people. I had to deal with this two years ago, and I am dreading having to deal with it tomorrow. And one more thing about it, I often times find that large crowds make for stupid individuals. They just make bad decisions. Oh well.

Looking forward to my little birthday present next Monday, going to see the Burlesque show ... that should be a nice birthday treat for me. And on that note, I suppose I should get back to work.
morgan:
the problem with innocent until proven guilty (not that I think that should be changed) in rape cases is that it is often turned around, so that the victim has to prove that SHE'S innocent (that she's not lying, that she didn't "really" consent and just change her mind, that she was capable of saying no at all, etc). It's a problem making it fair, because on one hand we must assume that the accused is innocent until proven guilty...but on the other hand, how do we go about proving someone guilty when it becomes a he-said she said situation.

Another point that Mackinnon brings up is, how valid is what he says? If a woman, for example, goes on a date with a man, and he tries to have sex with her, and she asks him to stop, but doesn't outright yell "no" or hit him to stop him, she feels that she was raped. And she was, because when someone says to stop, you stop. But if HE feels that she consented, should that matter? Too many cases come dangerously close to letting the accused define rape, which silences women and their definition of force and consent.

Also, I'd like to point out that there's a lot of rumor that false charges of rape happen all the time. Really, a false charge of rape doesn't happen any more often than any other false charges in other types of crime. Not that that makes false accusations any less painful, just pointing out that it's not a rampant thing.
