So writing the vocal line to this metal song for my buddy's band is like having someone throw a big brick wall at you and say "CATCH". It just comes flying at you and you're not really sure what to do. I've done well with it so far, and I think by the end of this week, I'll be far enough into the song that I'll be able to show the guys in the band something to mull over. This is a pretty fun project though.
In other news, I'm nearly getting over my cold. Right now is the unpleasant stage of the blobs being coughed up. Pretty gross. My foot is still giving me problems, but I've not been very consistent with the anti-inflamatories, so that could be a good reason that its not feeling much better. I guess I'll have to be more stingent in taking the pills regularly.
So my buddy played in the drumoff last night. He didn't win, but there were some very interesting things there. Three out of the six were the only ones that were really competitive, but damn, they did some cool stuff. One guy was all about tricks with his sticks, and speed fills. The boy had some really impressive speed, and you almost couldn't believe it without hearing it. The guy who won, he was just an all around fantastic drummer. He had speed, fills, a good stage performance, and was actually doing some really cool beat patters and polymetrics. Then my buddy's performance went really really well. He did the most technically challenging stuff, but was less into the fills and more into the actual work that must be done, I suppose he should have focused more on being showy in his playing. Perhaps.
I've been enjoying the cd's I ordered the other week. Fleming and John is just my favorite. The woman has such an amazing voice, and the style of music is just very pleasant to listen to. I'm So Small is my favorite song of theirs. Odd fact, on one of their cd's, Ben Folds plays the drums ... weird.
Not a whole lot else to say at the moment. Lots of thoughts in my mind, just not a lot that need/want to come out right now.
