So my weekend was good for me. It didn't help my emerging cold at all, but my mind was able to release from all the frustration and sadness I was feeling at the time.

As far as the detainee bill is concerned, my mind is still reeling from the implications it has for our country. The very thought that the system of checks and balances our country was founded on has been repealed in the sense that the president now has nobody to check or balance his authority, is simply scary. Essentially, all the president is now required to do is call you an enemy combatant, and suddenly, you can be thrown away into a prison without any recourse. No court can hear your plea, you can be denied access to evidence of your wrongdoing, so you therefore cannot contradict such evidence. This is just beyond frightening. Even an American citizen can be held in this way. I fear too many people in our country have been living too easily for too long a time. This is the start of a dictatorship. Dictatorship is a very slippery slope, and once you're on it, it is very hard to stop such a course. I weep for all those in this world who are too ignorant or willfully blind to see what they've just supported.

As for the girl, as much as I like her, she's no longer "stuck in the rotation" of my mind. I think the mountain had a lot to do with that. When the beauty of the world can cause your mind to forget everything else in life, it gives you perspective on the relevance of any situation you may be involved with. Looking down a ledge into a valley, trees speckled in red, yellow, orange and green, the cliff wall decorated with moss covered rock so green it almost looks like an emerald wall, a soft cool wind blowing past the horizontally formed ice on rocks, plants and anything else protruding from the ground, you just gain this sense of beauty, of smallness, of great respect for life, this world, and of happiness. My soul just lifts as I look out across the great expanse of mountains in the distance. On a wall of one mountain, I could see where an avalanche had occured, a sudden emptyness in the confusion of trees, filled with piles of rock over mangled corpses of trees.

Who knows, maybe it wasn't the girl I liked so much as my desire to deeply experience something so beautiful. I don't know if that is true, but being in the mountains filled me with something that's been vacant from my life for too long. My spirit soared, as the mountain fell before me. Every small stream being gently cut down the side of the mountain as the sun fought to control the vicious weather atop the beast that is Mount Washington. Waterfalls gently and beautifully arch through the air only to drop again on rock that is nowhere near the end of its journey.

Soon I'll be going to see the doctor. I've got a problem with my foot, and its not gotten any better. Its quite painful and there seems to be a grinding sensation. I'm not too happy about what the possible outcome for this may be, but there's always hope that I'm just overly concerned. Though when I meet with the doctor today, they may be surprised that its my foot I'd like checked out, considering I'll be coughing like mad and blowing my nose like an elephant. Quite a beautiful picture I'm sure.
