Im knocking back the St Pauli Girls tonight just chilling to Boys Dont Cry/Three Imaginary Boys, a cd I made incorporating the first domestic and UK albums from the Cure. I love the Cure!... even up through their latest, but something about he early work makes me appreciate them even more. The first sets of songs were amazing, especially when you take in to consideration that it was actually just three (imaginary) boys making all the sounds. This was back in the guitar-bass-vocals-drums only days and produced in a more naked stripped down way. Sure Foxy Lady is a way out anti-punk/anti-rock version of the tune and very opposite to Hendrixesque music. I also find Meathook to be very inspired and ahead of its time, with the vocals seeming to be on a rollercoaster track that speeds off the track at timesbrilliant. Then there are the perfect songs, like f-i-r-e-i-n-c-a-i-r-o! Jumping Someone Elses Train even the song Three Imaginary Boys makes me wish I were older than 10 months when this music originally being made. Yet, maybe I am more endeared to it as some kind of mythical start to a band that has gotten me through a lot of tough times. Yes, to some people, 16 years older than me, this music is some how just as wonderful, even nostalgic. Oh well with beer and Boys Dont Cry this is the kind of journal entry you get from an imaginary boy like me.
