Well, having spoken with the object of my affections, I'm feeling much less disgusted with myself.
We spoke for over 3 hours and were completely honest with each other. I told her how much she meant to me, and how much I had missed her when we lost contact, and she said the same thing. She admitted that she got on with me better than she did with her fella, and only went out with him as he was available at the time (and I wasn't)
I think there's a real chance we may get together, but only time will tell on that one. Either way, if we get together or not, she will always be one of my closest and dearest friends, and we have promised never to lose touch again.

I'm going to have a similar talk next weekend I think. This girl and I dated for a couple months about six years ago. It ended because we were just too far away and a little too young at the time. But about a month or so ago we started hanging out and talking again and now I find myself falling for her in a big way and I think she feels it too. I get to see her next weekend and I'm planning on telling her how much I want to get back together, hope it goes well. Regardless of how this talk goes, she and I have become closer friends over the past month or so and that's a damn good thing.

As an aside.....she kinda looks like Michelle Trachtenberg....I'll get a picture to prove it if I can, but she hates being photographed.

Honesty is always the best solution. It's just that some people don't know how to react when faced with it. I'm glad your story's working out fine (I missed the whole episode as I wasn't around).
