The process forces you to look at each object, each memory. You have to move the heavy furniture, sweeping the dust that lay behind it. You have to go through the drawers full of shit and throw away what you don't want anymore. Sometimes, you find something you thought you had lost. At the very least, you get rid of what you no longer need.
