The original rant that was supposed to appear here has been shelved simply because I think my time should be spent on a more noteworthy topic: Porn.
Ok, so you may or may not have heard about the latest rumblings in the porn industry. Although the likelihood of you catching wind of the latest porn news as a member of SG is slightly higher than, say, those on the Official Site for Bunnies and Fluffy Stuff, its become rather apparent to me that the Darren James issue isnt getting the attention it needs. At least not yet. Now I know that all, maybe five people will read this; six if Im lucky enough to have someone click-through on accident, so its hardly a rant bent on changing the world. I know my place on your priority list; somewhere about dirty laundry and dusting the back of your television set, so dont think I think youll rightly care.
To get you up to speed, early last week Darren James, a rather busy chap in the adult porn video industry, was diagnosed as HIV positive. Justice some people call it, Holy fucking shit! is the response of many others less conservative. Now the industry and AIM (the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation, not your messenger app.) are scurrying about trying to quarantine what are called the first and second generation actors and actresses; those that have been in contact with James and are likely to have contracted the virus. A few have already tested positive, and because of such results the porn video industry is halting production in many different areas.
AIM does in fact test those who work in the industry, regularly I might add, but results just dont pop up like a plus if youre pregnant, a minus if your not. Most test results are back within 30 to 60 days, and an awful lot of filming can be done in two months time while results are in limbo. In James case, thats precisely what happened.
Now that youre a bit up to speed there are some things that should be addressed, and the lack of news coverage will be my first victim. Youve read about it on the front page of New York Times, the Washington Post gave it a two page spread, CNN is there with up to the minute reports; no you havent seen a thing have you. Except for our timely Reuters picking up on it today, about a week late, outside the blogshpere and AVN there really hasnt been any word.
Its quite troublesome really. Think about it: a $10 billion dollar annual revenue industry is set back on its heels and forced to stop production in one of its most lucrative areas. Now imagine Fox Television shutting down production and thats front page. Imagine ABC or NBC networks saying, Forget about Monday through Wednesday, we dont need programming, and thats front page. Now why is it that on my front page Im staring at an ignorant little college football player thats upset because hes not allowed to enter the draft? The mass media in the US, with its stranglehold on the public, still refuses to acknowledge the porn medium unless the story is about keeping it in check.
Give me a fucking blog crammed full with journalists and journalist types who want to bring you real news, untethered by the want to please everyone and spare the innocent, any day.

Thanks for the report, though. If not for you, I would probably never have heard a peep about it.
The notion of unbiased media is bullshit to say the least. Not much that can be done about it at this point though except trust no one, dig for true facts and make your own decisions. As you've just shown, bias is evident in the mere choice of stories most news outlets choose to run. Don't get me going on a rant.
Anyways... you do realize I'm one of five right?
