I don't believe you have to choose. Find a profession (or professions) you enjoy that's also in demand and pursue that as a vocation, but also make room in your life for the other things you love. To me, having a stable day job and financial base actually makes it much easier to avoid compromising in one's other endeavors. If something else takes off at some point and the day job becomes obsolete, you'll then have a free choice as to whether or not to stay with it.
