could this be a rebirth of the American Dream?
until last night I thought the American dream was DEAD. in fact, I know it was dead. As a nation we've been down and out. we've been disappointed and disillusioned.
But Obama gives people hope. we needed that. we felt so slighted by the last election and I think we'd almost given up...but Obama's campaign was BRILLIANT. he ran on a ticket hope and change and we ate it up. we were so hungry for it.
As excited as I am about Obama, I know he'll have a difficult time living up to expectations...any one would considering the challenges at hand. however, maybe now we'll get some socialized medicine...that's what I'd really like to see happen. it a bit ridiculous that we don't care for our citizens health and so many other countries have figured out how to do it.
we did it. we elected a black man president. finally. it's hard to beleive that just 40 years ago MLK was assasinated for his ideas and his race and now at least a portion of his dream has come true.
however apparently we still hate fags...prop 8 passed in CA which was a measure to overturn gay marriage in the state and is riddled with discrimination. ugh. I fucking thought this state was liberal, I don't understand what happened.
but I suppose ya can't get everything ya want in one election.
edited to add: if you are a CA resident and want to know how you can try to overturn prop 8, you should check out Bob's blog. She has put together info and text about how we can fight it. check it out and start emailing your district reps!!!
