I love the National Geographic Channel!

I do. I adore science realted tv, or any program that gives me the opportunity to learn something new.

Last night I watched an amazing special on Giant Japanese Hornets. They are venemous and extrmely dangerous to humans and bee colonies. As many of you know I have grown to love the cute fuzzy little honey bees and these Hornets are some bad mother fuckers.

Below is a clip from the show depicting just 30 of these giant hornets attacking a colony of 30,000 eurpoean honey bees. Although the honey bees out number the hornets, the hornets are more than double the size of the bees and they wreak absolute carnage on the poor bees. this clip was really nicely done and it's very dramatic...if you think the battle scenes in saving private ryan or 3000 were violent, they've got nothing on the CARNAGE these hornets infliclt. Like Godzillas destroying Tokoyo, the hornets literally rip the cute little bees to shreads...until they've killed every last one of them. but the brave little bees never give up the fight. Nature can be so cruel. it's truly amazing...and amazing that they documented this so well.....

Personally I'm on the honey bees side. those hornets can go fuck themselves. So, I'm happy to inform you that every once in a while these amazing bees do kick a hornets ass. Below is a clip of japanese honey bees attacking a hornet scout. (if they don't kill the scout, the scout will return with and army and they will suffer the fate of that european honey bee colony did....

Isn't that AMAZING? the organization of those bees and the fact that they don't sting but rather use the friction of thier body heat to bake the hornet alive. How freaking cool is that? Now you start to get the idea, why I'm such a honey bee lover. they are amazing creatures.

ok. well. that's you science lesson for the day. I hope you enjoyed it.

Now go plant some flowers and save a honey bee colony....
