I'm finally back in LA. What a fucking weekend. One that I won't ever repeat again. Well, maybe small parts of it, but not the main part.

Recap:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Friday night I drive down to San Diego. I decided to stay at my fathers place this time around, since there's no other real place to stay than a hotel room. I get there sometime after 11. Kids get dropped off at that point. I then hang out with the room-mate for a while, who then takes off and spends the night at his girlfriends. Dad arrives home roughly about 2am. He's hops in his bed, turns on the TV to wind down and get ready to go to sleep. Starts complaining about how he doesn't feel well. His chest starts hurting, and his arm. He pops a nitro. I then tell him to pop some aspirin, which he does. At this point, I'm keeping an eye on him as I move my youngest son to my bed. Dad starts getting worse, complaining now about his jaw. He needs to go, and go now. I wake up my oldest son, and move him over to my bed. Tell him that I need to drive grandpa to the hospital and to go lay in my bed and wait for his mom, that she'll be there soon.

We leave. I run to the car and get it open. Dad jumps in and lays down the seat. Moaning and crying about the pain. I take off, but the wrong way. I had totally forgotten where I was going. I correct my bearings and run a red light to get onto the freeway. I'm barreling down the freeway doing about 90-120 in spots. I exit the freeway and off to the hospital. I pull into what I thought was the emergency drop off zone. I run inside, grab nurses to get a gurney. They take their sweet ass time. They get out there and one asks "Why did he park here?" Does is really fucking matter you cunt?!?!?! They get him on the stretcher and into the ER. I go park.
I finally get ahold of my ex-wife and tell her that she needs to go grab the kids, and explain whats happening. She goes, but couldn't wake up the kids to let her in, so she comes to me to get the keys. I ask her to bring me my books and my baseball cap.

The next hour, I'm watching the docs work on my father. Having him pop nitro pills every 5 mins and giving him morphine. They're trying their best to get him stable so they can transport him to the Cath Labs over in Scripps La Jolla. They finally get things to the point where they can transfer him. They get him loaded up, and off they go. I finally get my stuff from the ex-wife and head on out. I get to Scripps, and immediately head down to the Cath Labs. It's so late at night that everything looks eerie and dark. The waiting room is even locked up. I head back upstairs and find a nurse who's getting him logged into the system. She escorts me back down to the waiting area, hands off some papers to the cath lab, and sends a security guard to open the room for me. I tried to do some reading, but instead wrote a small snippet on twitter as well as a small blog here on SG, to the best of my Iphone's abilities. I tried to read again, and the overpowering white noise got to me and I fell asleep. Not 15 mins later, the doctors tapped on the glass to let me know he's out and they're taking him up to his room. He did fine and they had to go in with a catheter to open up an artery and remove some scar tissue. Get him up to his ward, and the first thing I notice is the abundance of cute nurses. "Lucky SOB" I thought....sorta.
I spent 20 mins at his side while he dozed in and out of sleep. I then wake him up and tell him I'm heading home to get some sleep. At this point, I'm nearly 24hrs without sleep. In that 24hrs, I was drunk on margarita's, sobered up at work, then had to drive 2hrs to San Diego.
I get back to the apartment, do some small updates, call some people, and it was off to bed. By this time it was roughly 7:30am. At 12:30pm, I start getting phone calls and text messages. I get up with my huge migraine, pop 4 advil's, brew some espresso and make a small breakfast of "malt-o-meal". Then pretty much waited around for the headache to go away and for the kids to arrive.
Kids show up around 4:30. I then take them down to see my dad. Didn't visit for long. We left and I decided to explore the area. Ended up at Torrey Pines Reserve and went to the beautiful strip of beach there. I let the kids play in the water while I took pictures. I was kinda upset that I didn't have my full set of gear on me, because I could have switched out lenses and my CF card. The latter ended up filling up as I'm taking pics of the setting sun. We leave and head home. Kids jumped in the bath while I made a quick small dinner for them. Then send them off to bed. I flirt around online for a little bit and crashed myself.
Which brings us to today. Kids were kind enough to let me sleep in. My dad calls to inform me that they plan on releasing him today. Fine. Cool. Back to sleep. An hour later, they're releasing him. Ugh. I get up, shower. Kids get dressed and I have them clean up their messes. Get everything packed up and off we go to get him.

An already long story short... I get him home, and the first thing he does is pop open a Coke.

Some people will never learn, and I'm through trying to teach.

Over all of this whole ordeal I was terrified, but moreso pretty damn pissed. Mainly because he's all talk and no action. I try to explain to him what he needs to do or should be doing, but I always get that look of "what do you know, you're just a kid. You couldn't possibly know anything"....

So.....fuck him.

Can't help those who don't want to be helped, right?

Just another lesson for me in what NOT to become.

m0ngrel:
glad to hear he made it out in one piece, but damn... right back on his path eh.
