Tonight's show at the Roxy wasn't as good as last night's. The bands were just as on, and The Hold Steady played a completely different set, so we got to hear songs we haven't heard them play before, including a few new ones. I have a feeling they'll be going into the studio after this tour. Craig Finn mentioned that they haven't played Boston since last October, and that they've played 270 shows since then. That's a lot of touring.
Anyway, the show was good, but not great. I think part of that is that we weren't drinking heavily. I had one beer, which cost me 7 bucks. If I wanted my standard Jack and Cokes? 9 dollars a pop. That's 33% more than they were at Lupo's. So, yeah, no drinking.
But the big problem was the crowd. There were a lot of dicks at this one. Lots of people shoving you out of the way, for no reason. There was even a mosh pit going. Now, I have nothing against a pit; in fact, I participated when I saw Gogol Bordello. But The Hold Steady aren't the type of band that inspires you to throw yourself into other people. The crowd just didn't have a positive vibe tonight.
No more shows on the horizon right now. I might go see Ween in November. And I think Dinosaur Jr. is playing in Boston sometime next month, I might look into that. I kinda want to go see the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in December, but mainly for the cheese factor. It seems so long ago that ska was popular, and it was only popular for like 6 months, tops.
