My grandma's car was stolen from the street in front of our house.frown

She's upset, understandably, and whereas we used to never even lock our front door, we're locking everything now. Still don't understand how this happened-our neighborhood has been improving for the past few years, not declining at all.

No school for me this semester. Not sure how I feel about that, so I'm...

Don't worry. I'll be 200 years old by the time I finish my Ph.D.

oh, awesome. I adore doctors. my sister's an infectious disease doc, and I've got a couple of friends in various surgical specialties, so I hear a lot of doctor stories and go to a lot of doctor parties. got dangerously drunk with a bunch of docs just saturday night, in fact! anyway, as hard as you guys work, a semester off probably isn't a bad thing at all.

Music for my trip: Death to the Pixies, an old Verve bossa nova compilation, Portishead's Dummy, TV on the Radio's first album, and some Tiger Army in case I get sleepy.

I have this weird passion for the scent of clean, bleached fabric. When I was a teenager and was with my first serious boyfriend he always wore white tees (not the huge kind Andre...

Meaningful sex! Dangerous.

Sense memory for smells is a powerful, wonderful thing, and it seems to last forever--it still works for me for cheap perfumes from middle school, unfortunately.

You'll likely still be responding to the fresh-sheets smell when you're in the Old Bookish Ladies' Home, which is good, because they've got great laundry service there.

Well, howdy stranger. Long time no nothing. Glad to see you around again. kiss

Great weekend...I worked my ass off and met up with one of my favorite people, Llona (I really mean that) and a friend I saw earlier last week in NYC (happy surprise). We had drinks until the wee hours Saturday night and I brought some good bread, cookies, and best of all: chocolate croissants. I'm so rich in food working at this bakery, but somehow...

This is hilarious: stuff white people like.biggrin

School's fantastic. I'm so happy my break is over...I was missing school hardcore. I made lots of good food and tried to paint a bit, but the best part was a night out dancing with a good girlfriend. I needed that! I also got to see The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, which was one of the...

i'm in Sao Paulo. Cultural heart of Brazil. i've been to Salvador only once, last year, for work. It rocks.

dragonchild92:
In fact, I was born in Salvador, but I raised on the countryside of Bahia state. You know, Salvador is the capital city of bahia, but I have living here for 12 years, it's quite nice, but Bahia is better because people there is so friendly (more than here), but between Rio and Sao Paulo, I prefer Sao Paulo, is more cultural, more rock'n' roll.
When you come here, it will be nice to talk.

It's beautiful outside! The sky is clear and blue and our neighbor boys are playing football in the yard. I have some friends coming over later to walk the dogs to the park close to my house and have dinner. I made some barbecue sauce for a free-range chicken I'm roasting, fresh coleslaw, and green chile cornbread. I think for dessert I'm going to make...

i really wanted the doggie sushi toys. but they were tiny-- my dog would have them destroyed in less than five minutes.

Why do I meet the best men when I'm trying my best to NOT date anyone? Apparently that's the way life works, and I've just been in denial about it for a while.

School's fabulous. I'm in the middle of what will most likely be the easiest semester of my academic career, which is great because I get to focus on actually enjoying it and...

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE: MARI'S LIFE

OPTIONS:

1.) Stay in Atlanta, move out of comfy condo and into Mom's house. Effectively end sex life. Struggle to attend school while dealing with family issues. Spend lots of time with dogs and Brazilian grandmother learning to cook.

2.) Move in with dad and new stepmom in Houston. Go to school. Living expenses paid for; work part-time to...

for what it is worth . . . i vote for number 4. i would hate to see another friend move from atlanta to somewhere else.
misha:
Well, I am definitely a spontaneous, let'smovetoeurope kind of person, so if you were me, I would chose option 3. HOWEVER, I think you should chose option 4, because I just met you and I want to get to know you. So don't run away yet! Plus, ATL is the bomb, why would you ever want to leave???

Yesterday my family celebrated my mama's 50th birthday at a Brazilian churrascaria with a bunch of her oldest friends. It was fantastic to see her so happy and to see people that played with me when I was little, or whose kids I played with when we were little. We ate good feijoada and other good Brazilian dishes, and there was a guy with a...

Pedro Almodovar is such a genius. I saw Bad Education (the Spanish title is so much sexier: La Mala Educacion) the other day and got all hot and bothered. Gael Garcia Bernal and some hot Spanish actor making out...it doesn't get much hotter as far as boy-on-boy action goes. Yum.smile Of course the film also contains the usual Almodovar trademarks: always brilliant use of vivid...
