Tomorrow one of the roommates and I are going to the Brazilian parade by the consulate, which should be trashy and music-filled. It feels like an appropriate way to end the summer.

I'm excited September's here. So far it means so many good things: cooler weather, my Texas family visiting me a bit closer to home (via a massive Filipino wedding next weekend in Virginia), extended petsitting in fancy digs, and hopefully a visit from my Atlanta family to make up for the flight home I had to cancel because of the hurricane. I'm homesick and my mom told me our cat's been missing for a week.frown

The new guy at work is Southern and just as easily offended by the women we work with as I was when I started. Trying to impart the knowledge I've gained working in the veterinary industry for the past ten years is daunting and has made me appreciate 1) what I've gained through my experience, and 2) what quick studies many of my coworkers are or have been. He told me today that I've mastered empathy, or at least the appearance of it. Shouldn't I make more money if that's true? The truth is that I should move on.

I'm overdue for some serious, life-altering changes. I'm in a rut and feel disconnected from who and what I care about. Got some work to do.

On a positive note, today I saw lots of my favorite patients: Mack, an 8 month old Bull Terrier that I haven't seen since he was a little piglet-puppy. Penny the Basset made sad eyes at us all but got all waggly and forgave us when vaccines were all done, and Roxy the French Bulldog kept running back behind the front desk to play with us and flop on her back for belly rubs. It totally made up for the crazy unreasonable people that yelled at me even though I was being sweet to them, and the fact we were understaffed, and saying goodbye to some of my all-time favorite coworkers this week. Dogs are love.
