Just got home from seeing my first play in New York, Equus. I was impressed. There were a few moments of performance-art silliness with the horse-heads and dancers but it was a beautifully written play and I though the cast did a great job, too. I'm a total Law & Order nerd and recognized the woman playing the main character's mom as Dr. Olivet from the series.blush Daniel Radcliffe's penis wasn't much to look at, but the nude scene was very appropriate to the story.

The play gave me a lot to think about, but the theme that really stuck with me was that people aren't the sum of their experiences. There's a lovely line early in the play where the psychiatrist describes the total of all of the treatment horses receive as beasts of burden, (which he describes them expressing through affection that won't lead to filling their bellies or propagating their species), as grief. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go see it.love

I'm finally getting some sleep tonight. Haven't slept well in a week and I'm feeling it. Tomorrow night after work I get to have pizza and beer and watch dvd's with my brother from another mother, my old roommate from Atlanta who lives up here now.biggrin

That big scene with the horses is tough to stage! Unless you've got actual horses up there, it's bound to look like the world's worst Lion King outtakes.

I first saw it back when I was in college, but couldn't get past my preexisting crush on the actress from the stable-sex scene. She never did invite me to those stables....
