the band's going back out on the road tomorrow. hopefully I will not fail out of school as a result. I'm leaving this old post up because it's more amusing than what I'm writing now. Have an awesome week everyone

last night we played at byron coley and thurston moore's studio space in western mass. it wasn't what we were expecting. byron had booked us to play, but then realized that yo la tengo was playing the same night, so he told us "I have a bunch of friends who really want to see you, but who also really want to see YLT, so why don't we move your show up and we'll all go over to YLT together afterwards."

In practice this is not what happened. About three people showed up and after we played Byron went home. We stopped by the YLT show, just to say we got in off the list, but we didn't stick around long. kind of disappointing. but hey -- I'm not a huge ylt fan, so hey. and kim and thurston weren't there. sigh.

but I am painting a much too grim picture. it was actually really nice. Byron cooked everyone dinner. his wife and daughter were there and we played a great, relaxed set.

And the best part is Byron has this record shop in the studio that he only opens by appointment that's filled with all sorts of super-obscure records (some are over $200!). After we played, Byron let us each take $50 of stuff from the store (this is how he pays people for playing for him. pretty neat). So that was awesome. I got some 7"s from nice nice and sleetmute, some old deutsche grammophon recordings of work by ligeti and penderecki. so in all, it was still really cool, just not "watch YLT from back stage with thurston and kim" cool.

the best thing is I think my other band might be coming to play there in a couple months and that means another $50 of obscure records. awesome.
