Today my strength left me. After 4 days of abstaining from my medication, the withdrawl symptoms got the better of me.

I strongly advise anyone who is prescribed Effexor XR to research the side effects and withdrawl symptoms before accepting any dosage.

This drug makes me feel like a junkie. That's been my choice phrase to describe the sensations. Simply search for "effexor withdrawl" to find the hell that myself and others have been through. It's not an exaggeration to say that I have never been as sick as I have in trying to cut this off. In reading this, I've never felt so ineloquent or clumsy in my writing. I can barely think my way around the keyboard to form my thoughts... And I've been back on it for a couple of hours now.

In the past year it has helped me. My current well-being can be partially attributed to having a constant flow of the meds in me. However, I've been feeling as though it has been losing effectiveness of late, and the side effects are increasing, so I attempted to drop it cold-turkey against the advice of many. And I failed. I will now attempt to wean myself off over the next month or so by breaking the capsules open and taking a smaller dosage day by day. With luck, this will minimize the withdrawl symptoms.

I cannot be slaved to this any longer.

I know exactly what you mean-this week I missed two days in a row and had two lovely days of near-migraines to remind me of it.frown

Please, please don't do this by yourself or because you feel you're a slave to your meds. You're not. You need to talk to your doctor and make sure you really need to stop taking this. There may be something else that can help you. You wouldn't consider a diabetic a slave to his body for taking insulin, would you? If you need something, there is no shame in taking care of yourself so you can be healthy.kiss
