I discovered the riot grrrl movement when I was 12 and for some reason, I've been plunging back into it lately. Besides making heads bang, these ladies truly brought something to the punk and hardcore feminist music scene and paved the way to many contemporary female singers. I'd like to pay them tribute!

Great article from the cultural American magazine The Nation written by Katha Pollitt. The author, a feminist journalist and poet, writes a letter to France regarding Dominique Strauss Kahn.

For those of you who like garage rock, The Kinks and The Raconteurs, you should check out The Greenhornes, a great band from Cincinnati, Ohio, that was created 12 years ago.

The song below is from the soundtrack for Jim Jarmush's Broken Flowers released in 2002.

I would like to introduce a band to you. They're called Underground Railroad and they're friends of mine from Paris who moved to London six years ago. No French label wanted to sign them because they sang in English (no comment...). Anyway, after relocating in the UK, they signed on One Little Indian (Bjrk's music record), toured with Sonic Youth, Nada Surf and Cold War...

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's kid sibling, Ailey II, is more than just a farm team to supply the parent company with fresh blood now and then. Led by Sylvia Waters, with Troy Powell as associate artistic director, its 12 members (former fellowship students at the Ailey School) can tour where the big, expensive AADC...

Peter and Anita

"Shes my longest relationship
A flame so quick to be relit"
At the time you drank more
Endless naps on the floor

Could she be the reason why
Neglecting my urge has become a custom
Ad libitum
Could be she the reason
That you hardly ever go to the bottom
Ad nauseam

Could she be the reason you lower your eyes
After...
