Paprika reminds me that I'm lax on my updating (big surprise), so a few quick words to bring me up to the holidays.

The 3rd of 4 semesters is now complete! It was the easiest by far schedule and stress wise, and the grades weren't too bad, though a little short of what I wanted in a couple classes. The GPA remains in decent shape...

This week's much loathed OB clinical was great, and for all the wrong reasons.

First, my poor patient, about 22 hours postpartum, had a seizure. She has a history of them, sporadically, but hadn't had one since January. Transport had just shown up to take her for a tubal ligation she'd been waiting all day for (without eating), and Grand Mal she goes. I...

Perinatal clinical is not my thing. Don't like babies, not interested in pregnant mothers, less interested in recently pregnant mothers. I will admit watching a C-section was kinda neat. And nothing resembles a placenta. It's like a corpulent pancake off the griddle of nightmares, packed with bulbous cysts of blood in shades stretching the spectrum from blue to purple to red. The baby emerged silent...

And now the update you've been waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for!

So, Dragon*Con was nerdtastic in its unequalled manner. This was my 7th trip and the best by far of the lot. Had great company for the trip, with new special friend Jenni and henna/glitter artist Wendy joining my usual friends in room sharing. The band selection was particularly good, with Abney Park, Hellblinki,...

School has begun once again, the 3rd semester out of 4. This time around:

Pediatrics! Kids kids kids. I get along with children well enough (being a nerd leaves me quite open to their flights of fancy), but I'm not sure how much I want to deal with them in a medical environment. I did get the rotation site I wanted, though: oncology and respiratory...

Update time!

Summer semester is over. Absolute Hell. Not the fun sort of Hell where youre merely boiled in pitch and have your testicles stapled to your tonsils, either. It sucked. The guy with the Ph.D. dropped out. Smartest girl in my class and current crush object bowed out of the accelerated program and will pay another semesters worth of exorbitant out-of-state tuition...

Wheee, update time. Needless to say, school keeps me fully occupied. I have very little time for fun, and when I take it I seem to pay for it later. The exams are going...alright, but I'd like to do better. I'm self-competitive, so not getting an A irritates me no end. I'm at the half way point of the summer term at least, and after...

Real update soon -- just so busy with school, to the point where it's really weighing me down. A good friend dropped from the accelerated program to the 2 year version and has gone from being perpetually stressed to shamelessly elated.

I have pics of self in scrubs, which should amuse, and some stories of clinicals. Sometime soon. Promise. And now back to work.

First semester complete! A full week of life entirely lost to exams, but it went well. Most raised or maintained my final grade; only the last, Pharmacology, dropped it from A to A-. Just no time for the studying. But it's done, and I have a whole summer...well, 3 days...to enjoy before it begins again. Needless to say, the liquor cabinet's contents are reaching their...

Finals begin tomorrow. 7 classes, 7 comprehensive exams. Imagine my excitement. whatever

The light at the end of the tunnel is not, as you might think, the last exam. Rather, I have my gaze firmly fixed on this Saturday and the Raleigh World Beer Festival, 4 hours of drinking deliciousness to numb my overtaxed brain for a while.

After finals I have 4 days to...

Ah it sounds like a really fascinating life, everyones answers are making me so happy. It's so good that people care and have passions. I love the job I'm doing at the moment but I couldn't do it for long as I couldn't survive on the wages, one of my ideas if to do my training but I'm not sure yet, also perhaps art therapy as that would connect what I'm doing now with my first degree. Ah it's so hard, so many great things to fill ones time with. Good luck with all your exams :-)
