I have returned from San Francisco and had myself a nice time. Saturday, I visited my friend from 9th grade honors English whom I hadn't seen in over ten years, who now lives with his girlfriend in Berkeley. It was one of the nicest mornings I can remember having in a while. Donned the Reese's costume once more and went to a party Saturday night....

Did I mention I drove 180 miles in one evening to see the Pixies last weekend? Had a rickshaw take me from the car to the theatre, and our cyclist felt compelled to race the other rickshaws en route. The Pixies, of course, were worth every mile.

I omitted a detail from Saturday evening's Halloween party:
A rather cute woman dresssed as Hester Prynne wanted me to make out with her while I was wearing my beard. I declned, just because I couldn't take the psychological scarring that might ensue. Not the making-out-with-a-woman part, because I had done that once before (in the bathroom of a magician's club) but the making-out-with-a-woman-with-a-scarlet-A-whilst-dressed-in-beard part....

Thank You!
Oh, boy, my crush is getting bad. Three years have gone by, and periodically this person & I meet and exchange knowing glances, but never speak. Thursday I finally bit the bullet and wrote to him, and he wrote back right away. It was the first real exchange we ever had. He complimented me, so I wrote him back and thanked him. That was Thursday...

I like it.
As to your crush I say fling him another, non-related email. If he doesn't respond, then perhaps you know it may not be in the cards. That will most likely suck, but not knowing can suck even worse.

Radiohead has a song - Fitter Happier - that to me totally epitomizes that 1950's emotional dichotomy. The sterile surface and dark underbelly trying hard to coexist, but failing miserably.
Bring on the 60's man!

Last night a friend and I went to this gentleman's art opening downtown.
The art was illustrative, with disturbing post-apocalyptic themes. I only really found two of the paintings to my liking, both featuring a cute little spaceship-pod design. They were the only paintings I could envision myself wanting to stare at for more than a few minutes, which, in my opinion, is a prerequisite...

Thank-you for sharing your eleoquence and wisdom, always. I know what you mean about the joy in being positively surprised by someone. It happens so rarely to me I think I've forgotten what it feels like. I have pretty high expectations of myself and others, so it's rare when someone I meet exceeds those. I don't really look for it anymore.
``Hyper-analytic'' probably wasn't the best choice of words. ``Hyper-aware'' was more what I meant. The opposite of oblivious, as most people tend to be towards detail. I'm much the same way and I don't consider this mischievous or cruel at all. Our diversity as a race lends itself to humor I think. People need to relax and laugh at themselves more often. I laugh at myself all the time.
If you find the world continuously alienating, it might be a signal that you are evolving or undergoing a metamorphosis, and this is a good thing. I've felt the same way for a long time, as discussed many times in past journal entries. Learning to live with this, to make it through to the other side, is my current challenge, since it's not possible to return what I have learned and what I now know.
Time for some coffee & bailey's before I drift off.

Hi! Well, yes, I did like CITIZEN KANE THAT much. but just getting the hang of typing into the journals.
I'mnot certain that this is even the right way to get back to new friends on the list, but here it is.
Welles was really one fine director(my fave being TOUCH OF EVIL) and it's saddening to see his stuff listed as old film now - worse (on one list) before they "made real films"> Brr.
Thanx muchly for poiinting out my error - see you in the funny papers as time goes on!

I just dropped all this money on this camera, which I couldn't afford at all. It arrived yesterday, and I returned it after realizing it didn't even come with a memory card! Although Canon claims the card is "optional," without it, the camera is completely useless. $1600 and I can't even get one lousy little memory card from them?!? What a bunch of heels! Fuck...

The other day I took a friend of mine to Real Food Daily to use a $10 coupon I received for my birthday that was expiring soon. We waited to have our order taken for 25 minutes, but when Anthony Kiedis and friends walked in, they were served right away. My friend poured a generous amount of garlic salt in her tea thinking it was...

Can someone write to Maxx and ask him to let me in SGLA already?

You showed up in my matches. Hey there match!
A co-worker with whom I rarely exchange words just sauntered in the subtitlers' room and marveled at the new Halloween decorations. He said that, although they were good, the effects didn't measure up to the real thing. He then proceeded to ask me whether I'd like to go to Forest Lawn with him and "dig up some real decorations." Before I could answer, he turned...

When I first brought it home I noticed that the cat's were quite terrified of it, they would not go near it and would freak out if I tried to get them close to it. I started to use the skull to keep the cats off of things or out of certain areas of the house, it worked quite well. Two years ago a friend of mine was having a Halloween party and asked to use the skull as part of the decorations, there was this guy at the party that I had never met, he started to get drunk and decided to befriend the skull, he was carrying it around with him giving it drinks of beer and introducing it to people as his dead friend, I even saw him simulate oral sex with it. The next day I found out that he had been killed in a car accident that night after the party, he went through the windshield of the car and was decapitated. Then about six months ago I had some friends over and the next morning I noticed that someone had written "I am Dead" across the forehead of the skull, and that very next day I was driving past Forest Lawn and spray painted on the wall was "I am dead and so are you". That's when I decided I had to return it.
My impression of the hipster wine tasting event was not quite initially horror, but I did carry some doubts. The very first person to greet us in the evening was a woman posing as a parking attendant, even though the parking was ostensibly free. I have been the victim of this particularly ingenious scam on several occasions. Two instances come to mind: the cross-country trip...

Happy Tuesday

Happy Tuesday

The aerobed I have is just a regular old camping sized one, but now that I see they have these raised pillowtop jobs, I gots to have me one!
As far as early mornings, every cell in my being revolts at the idea. I feel nauseous, headache prone, dizzy, sometimes I vomit a little, I'm physically clumsy, my memory becomes poor, my thought process is fragmented, I put the milk in the cupboard and the grape-nuts in the fridge, sound and noises become exaggerated and irritating, etc. I'll bite your fucking head off in the early morning. My mind doesn't start waking up until after about 2pm, and no real thinking gets done before 6. My golden time is after about 10pm until I retire in the wee hours. It doesn't matter how many hours of sleep I get; if I awake too early, I'm sluggish and lethargic all day. On the other hand, I only need 7-8 hours of sleep to feel great as long as I can get up at after 10am. So, I'm scared of all these things associated with early mornings. I'm weird, if you haven't already noticed.
The traditional wisdom of my childhood always dictated that I was "lazy" because of this and that I should be broken and molded into an 8-5 schedule. It never worked. My grades in school were always worse during early morning periods. Only in my post-secondary education was I able to break this cycle by always choosing classes that started in the afternoon or evening. Anyway, recent research has now proven that people's propensity for morning or night is regulated by our circadian ryhthm or "chronotype" which differs for each individual by as much as 8 hours. There's even research that suggests variations are determined by a single gene, so all this may soon be able to be quantified, and with the advent of gene therapy, even altered. I can't even imagine what being a "morning person" feels like. Perhaps someday I will. So, this is exciting news, not only for retribution purposes, but in the sense that it might de-thaw the rigid rules of the American workplace. Whenever possible, why not have employees work when they are most productive? Makes sense to me. I hope this is the case, since my proclivity for night has been the biggest obstacle for me as I've tried to thrive in an organizational setting. So far, I've managed to find flexible employers that are a bit more forward thinking, and would rather have me doing better work than going to get coffee with co-workers first thing in the morning. It's an issue though from time to time that I still have to defend and contend with. Eventually I see myself being self-employed probably when I get fed up.
I like the flavor of your dream. Though I've been known to interpret dreams quite accurately, I'm not going to touch this one.
And yeah, Sean Combs == Puff Daddy, who is quite possibly my polar opposite. And I thought minuet was a type of rice; this big white boy don't dance!
Have a good day, I'm off to finish learning about "electrical safety in an R & D setting".
