my mom pulled the same bit with me...practical crap, lots of it not what i asked for, and of all dumb things a preppy as all get out international zip up sports turtleneck with "FRANCE" written across it (i know France is cool, but i hate sport clothing and eek she bought it cause she has one that says SPAIN on it)...it was like that scene in A Christmas Story where the kid gets the hot pink bunny suit...everyone in the family but mom was laughing at me and my ill luck.
hooray for xmas money to make up for all the practical gifts and disappointments.

and obviously not the spirit of holiday cheer. but yeah xmas (or rather giftmas as i like to think of it and festivus as my family now refers to it) is a crass and commercial enterprise, devoutly to be ignored.
i'm not sure if that's from the xmas carol or scrooged, but really does it matter?
mankind should have been my business....charity mercy kindness should have been my business...instead it's $7.25 an hour so soccer moms can buy their kids violent video games and bitch me out cause the sweater didn't ring up on clearance
so you can rant all you want to me about giftmas at anytime of the year and i will always listen.
cause yeah it's totally out of whack.
and to think i used to think it was a religious holiday...
but that was when i had an organized religion. i have gladly grown out of that shame laden guilt heavy phase. i enjoy being a heretic seeker. it feels less hypocritical than celebrating christgiftmassantaday
oh yeah edited to add hope that even if you don't believe in this holiday madness, that some part of it leaves you smiling (even if cynically) from ear to ear

sorry i've been away from sg for a loooooooonnnng time. this is utterly belated but thanks to you and phil for the ride home from bentos. it was totally greatly appreciated. i've been in a bad way for a month or so and i've pulled out of it just in time for the holidays. whoop de freaking do!
but yeah. i have a lot to catch up on. here's a lot of random comments from the past. sweet to win a pumpkin contest for not knowing how to paint...from the story i imagined milton painting a red swingline on a pumpkin. eep! i hope the carpal tunnel fears have resolved in the negative! ha ha panty joke! i wish i looked forward to movies. and yeah the holidays suck and were totally created not out of religious sentiment.
i posted a poem in my journal about the shopping zombies of black friday that i thought you might enjoy. i'm working in a retail major chain this holiday season. but not department store. discount retail shopping hellhole cesspool of holiday quagmire and fights over the last <fill in the blank> between soccer moms the day after thanksgiving and still now and then. add to that my totally so utterly dysfunctional that mental health professionals cringe and say "wow i'm really sorry" to me about and you can tell i share your deep deep disturbance of the holidays.
and yet mysteriously (like lewis black's alzheimer like yearly reaction to candy corn) every year i get filled with a somewhat happy spirit of TRYING to have a pleasant functional holiday season. it never works but i guess it's somehow worth giving a shot. i got to decorate a tree with my bf this year and go to his thanksgiving instead of mine (my yearly reason to drink) so i guess there's hope.
that would be sweet if you two could get a house and another cat and a dog! i hope that works out for you!
