Planning: a totally self indulgent day of:

  • getting a new haircut

  • enjoying a facial

  • being waxed (the process may not be enjoyable but the results sure-as-fuck are)

  • shopping for that elusive but perfect new work bag

  • lunching at fave japanese sushi bar

  • booking swank accommodation for TAS holiday

  • watching 3 sessions of the Japanese Film Festival at my fave cinema, Dendy Opera Quays

  • meeting Freaky...

i havent been on a late night date in a long time. i think im due.

I hope you enjoyed said self-indulgent day to its fullest extent.

As to waxing, I'm thinking of having my first foray into the world of bikini and leg waxing. I am a masochist, so perhaps there will be perks in it for me? tongue

Your cat's bag shenanigans sound adorable.

Writing: a submission for an edited book on parades and protest. Wish me luck they accept me - I really need to get some publications onto my CV before this PhD is completed.

Envying: the handbag I bought my mum for her birthday. If ever I needed proof that one day I'd turn out just like her, this is it. Buying gifts for her is...

It Definitely was an incredible show.

hey...not a problem. i was a bit upset the day i left the earlier comments but it was seriously not towards anyone in the group. there's a creepy guy that is preying on her and i'm being a bit protective. actually there's probably many.. smile anyways...that was to them. I'm glad people are making her feel better...thats not an issue...never was. It's just that fake comforting-trying to get it your pants kind of people. They stink. smile

Edited to add a desperate plea...
I need a house/cat sitter in Sydney for 11 - 26 December. Free rent, close to city, a great BBQ and entertaining area in exchange for not letting my fur-kids starve to death... Anyone?!

Feeling: the weeks, days, hours slips away despite my best (and worst) efforts.

I would LOOOOOOVE to. love to. That would be a dream... but i bet you could fly in a Swedish bikini team to house sit for less than it would cost me to fly to Australia from Canada. plus... my kitten would have no one to look after her here... but maybe one day I'll pretend that the offer had no fixed dates attached... wink

Reading: Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. For the second time. Enjoying it. Probably more that the first time. And definitely more than Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.

Wearing: the cutest t-shirt. It's a red raglan bonds with "I like Queers" and two cute 'lil cartoon gender-fuckers kissing on the front. Big ups to Mebourne Uni Queer Students Collective!

Dreading: the outcome of this weekend's...

I don't know if you missed Flux' comment a while back welcoming you to SG:NHS, so I'm just gently reminding you that a) you're in, and b) I purge the group of inactive members every few weeks.

Drop by and meet the gang. smile

Reading: Idoru - William Gibson. Liking it, too.

Writing: Chapter plans - or at least, scribbled ideas and notes that, my supervisor willing, will become chapter plans.

Wearing: new high heels that must be worn in before next weekend, pj pants (pink stripes) and no bra.

Wondering: if you could travel back (or forward) in time, what event would you want to see?

Were I to have a Queer Eye menage a trois, I think Kyan and Ted would be my choices too. *giggles*

Travel in time... nah, I'd worry about changing history and all that crap. I'd end up killing someone when my time travel phone booth landed on them and, whaddaya know, in a wacky twist of fate that person I killed would have been my great great grandmother and then I'd never be born and then I'd start to disappear like Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future. Nopenoepnope, time travel is a messy thing.

i so agree with you! it is a challenge to get them thinking on their own without grafting your interps on them ... and to avoid the Triumph of the Human Spirit reviews when yabos prink around on stage full of affect and mincing ridiculousness. much crap theater indeed. and then some? so good.

ohhhhh, cherry blossoms ~ loverly. i wish i did have some great pix, but alas, i don't. ummmm ~ have you found any traditional fans or trad screens of japanese prints? maybe going into a store with such things will spark ideas. also, this might sound odd, but might there be pictures of icing flowers like that? often work on cakes is so precise and detailed, but not necessarily botanical. hmmmm. good luck! kiss

Reeling: from the fact that, on Monday night, I saw an ep of The Simpsons on TV that I have never seen before...

I'm not talking a new ep, either. An old one. Old enough - and well known enough - to be included in this stupid "Best of the Best - Audience choices" bruhaha that they have running at the moment (if enough people...

greetings spratty my dear!

yes, new project ... basically, i am writing my own burlesque show to explore how the act of what i am calling hyperfeminity - a sort of female in female drag that excessively performs adherence to social expectations - opens up a space for subversive sociopolitical work through satire. i'm using the bakhtinian carnival, and assorted feminist performance theory (the explicit body, the appropriate body) to tease out the theoretical possibilities, and satirizing such things as the menstrual industry and the cult of female food depravation. my favorite set concept so far is a sort of giant altar with alternative menstrual gear on it. rock. i've defended my propsectus and completed orals, so its a go. yay. now i am terrified!

your work with the mardi gras was part of the inspiration for shifting gears!! it sounded so cool and fun, so i opened my mind in that direction. i lurve burlesque and viola ~ things came together.

oh, and i forgot to say, hello and hope you are well and happy. write on, my dear - you will be fabaluss!!

29 Things I've Learnt by the Age of 29 (which I will be next month...)

1. Manners matter. Always. Use them.

2. Cats are people, too.

3. Good sex cures just about anything. Similarly, bad sex is not only bad for your health, it should be illegal.

4. Things change. Wanting them not to wont stop it from happening.

5. No one is good at...

the new place sounds nice. crossing fingers for your health. I myself survive on microwave hot pockets and ---exercise--that would be head banging or rocking out at a rock show. that and sex of course. (my health suffers a little too). but I hope your suffering stops and you feel healthier. good luck.

yes ~ it is soooo great the way kids just say what they want, and thoroughly enjoy the simplest things. when my neice was a tinybabygirl, her father would rub her little tiny feet every night ~ their little ritual. once she started toddeling, she would go hunt for the foot creme whenever she wanted her daddy time. it was very sweet.

hope yr wellish! are you still teaching, or is the semester finished? i start up again in june, and am really rather looking fwd to it.
