Over the course of about two months, I would quit for a few days, and then start again. I was off and on. Eventually, I got to the point where I didn't even have severe withdrawl symptoms, only cravings. When I had cravings, I would chug water. What made me finally quit, the last time, though, was that I wanted to date Kali, and she's a nonsmoker.
It also helped that my roomate quit before me, so I didn't have to be around it all of the time. I believe my roomate just quit cold turkey, and she's doing a great job.
