I'm from new york and they've gotten like two feet of snow over the last week or so (and more on the way!), but I'm working in New Zealand (and McMurdo Station Antarctica). I come down most every year--but about 3 years ago they had a series of earthquakes that leveled a huge part of the city center and made a mess of the suburbs. Just my luck, the biggest of the quakes happened while I was here. The city is slowly coming back, but a lot of the land can't be rebuilt on (it turned into something like quicksand) so a lot of businesses are moving out toward the airport where I work.
once again, i'm roaming the bottom of the world. came close to seeing the first sunset in the antarctic--it was trying real hard, but just not quite yet. there's also a video of some orcas tooling around looking for a snack. some days i long for a "normal" job, but where else do you have to be put on hold for penguins or seals in...
