Watching Fox news a few moments ago, Geraldo was reporting from the Massaponax, Virgina gas station where the eighth Maryland/Virginia sniper victim was killed.

He had that smug Geraldo mustachioed grin and even though the television was muted I could hear the fake sympathy in his voice. And then, right there on the live satellite hook-up the side of his neck started spurting blood, and a slow waft of smoke slowly rose from the hole in his neck. He just sort of floated there for a second that seemed to last forever, blood literally erupting from his neck. Then, even though it was a three quarter shot, you could tell his knees were buckling and he collapsed out of frame.

Bedlam. Confusion. The segment producers rushes to his side. She's yelling something franticly into her cellphone. The news ticker on the bottom of the screen reports Tropical storm Kyle spins off heavy rains, high winds, threat of twisters. The cameraman imagines guest slots on tv talk shows, fuck you revenge on those assholes who taunted him in high school. He tries to remember everything as it happens, making constant mental notes, focusing the camera on the carnage on the asphalt in front of him.

Some while later I realize my cable has been turned off for months.
