Wow, so i just got done trudging through another family function and i need a drink. Your grandmother quote made me howl. I am the product of both northern and southern mix (otherwise interracial according to each parent!) My mom's parents were Sicilian, and I always found their dialect particularily amusing. Sicilians seem to 'sing' when they speak, they utter phrases with a melodic bounce that is totally discernable from northern dialects. I grew up constantly hearing 'mangia'! tongue
