if i liked scenerey i'd offer a house swap with my place in london sometime but i'm more desert and beach then trees...damn am i dying for some warmth!
That's awesome!
My room mate Rain is obsessed with perma-culture, and her dream is to set it up, and live off the land some day too...
personally I have dreams to do the same, if I can find a little place with land, but not too far from civilization. I would have my friends over constantly for ridiculous bonfire and barn-parties. (cow-milking, and egg findin' too!)
Every summer when I was 11 to 16, my step-dad at the time would take us camping (actually I think it was more like around september, which isn't summer at all!) anyways- we went to this land on an indian reservation in the desert called Lake Simtustus. You can camp right on the edge of the lake fall asleep to the sound of the crickets and the water lapping up against the sand. There's a tree that hangs out over the water you can fish in, and a big rock out in the middle to paddle out to, not to mention wild horses that bed down by your tent at night and hang out on the cliffs all day.
(it's kind of in a gorge, you're surrounded by high cliffs, yet covered in sun all day long.)
I keep dreaming about going back there this year with friends, seriously dressed like a native in as little as possible, and trying as best as I can to live off the land while I'm there...it'll be great if I can go.
As far as toilet paper goes....
Fuzzy leaves sounds like an improvement upon what we've been doing.
Rather than just drip-drying, which grosses me out to no end, I do what my momma did at her commune back in 1969.
Washcloths. After use, wash the FUCK out 'em and make them all sterile again. Fold, set aside discreetly, and wait 'til they're needed again. Thank god we don't have houseguests.
Now that I've probably grossed you out, I'll just go back to my own journal now.
hooray! monty python is fabulous, it also means your daughter is Well on her way to a happy life...
