Well, you know you have a lot of time on your hands when you do a user search of the names of your ex-girlfriends on Friendster. Let's see, I found the ex-girlfriend from high school who cheated on me with a cast member of 'Degrassi High', the girl who plays the harp and introduced me to Broken Social Scene, the ex-stripper I nearly married and...

Maybe it is the sleep deprivation, but I think snippets of lyrics in the songs of Sigur Ros' () are all the same.

Did you know that:

- Canada is technically not a country?

- Canada was founded partly because the the British were worried about being invaded by drunken Irishmen from the United States?

- Lacrosse is the official Canadian summer sport?

- that...

you poor homesick canadian, you.

consider me much more informed about your home country now. smile
oktober:
Have you ever read Douglas Coupland's Souvenir of Canada ? If not I highly suggest you do. It might make you more homesick, but you will enjoy it totally. If you don't you can beat me with a trout. biggrin

'You have been so nice to me, and for that, I will always love you' blush

Hope Sandoval's voice makes me want to lie on the floor and stare at the ceiling.

I miss having places that I could call my 'haunts'. I hope these feelings of social and cultural discombobulation I've been experiencing don't last long.
bijoux:
i'm glad you liked cinefile! i got a region-free dvd player and a membership there so i can expand my horizons. i am pretty remedial in the film department.

i recapped the magnetic fields in my journal. sorry you got jacked by mapquest, that thing sucks! frown
oktober:
I think missing my "haunts" is exactly the reason I resist moving anywhere other than where I am. I don't want to be Vancouver Island "lifer" but this place is so familiar and gorgeous. If I was a hobbit Van Isle would totally be my Shire.

I train under Shidoshi Ho John Deveau, and Shidoshi John Willson from Cornwall Ontario... You've probably at least heard of him. I just got back from Japan, it was quite the expreience. I'm going on 8 years this September... Time certainly does fly.

Anyhow, hopefully you find a good dojo... I know what its like to miss training for a chunk of time. My body just feels funny. I think it is possible to be addicted to training, but its probably a good thing though. biggrin

Let me just say that a blind man leading a naked man gives better directions than Mapquest. mad mad mad

And because of the incompetency of the people who run that site, I'm watching the story of Helen Keller rather than listening to the Magnetic Fields. You decide which is the better way to spend a Saturday evening.

thearcanecircle:
that peaked my intrest. how do you listen to a magnetic field?
flygirl:
hahahaha...i feel your pain. I was lost in East BFE North Carolina and almost missed my daughters 4th birthday party because of Mapquest. Bastards! Wouldnt it be much better for them to just say... "we are incompetant dumbasses, you should just go buy a map" rather then giving travelers a false sence of security?

It's 6:30 am, and here I sit cross-legged on the floor listening to my Belle & Sebastien CDs. Shoot, I have a day off, and instead of sleeping in and catching up on the rest I missed the last couple of days, I'm trying to pinpoint the exact moment twee music died. I think it was when Isobel Campbell left B & S.

Yup, folks,...

well, the beach is at least good for the weather. i had to go to pasadena yesterday and the heat melted my brain. ugh.

bijoux:
oh, you definitely can kill some time at giant robot. you can also get a bubble tea or any number of japanese snacks in the neighborhood. and there's a really good video store, cinefile, up at the corner of sawtelle and santa monica, if you're in the market for such a thing.

p.s. i sent you an email wink

I worked until 2am some days, I ate cold food, I was stressed out because of a stupid bug with Sony's PS2 code screwing up my code and things got tense in our team; but we met our deadline and now I'm taking a 3.5 day weekend.

What should I do? What should I see? I want to see more of the city!

BTW, I...

Man, I miss my family and my friends. And Toronto. And the CBC. And Gord Martineau. And Canada.

Oh, and a French guy at work hates me.

The girl I was dating in Toronto before I left found my SG blog through Google, and she is now convinced I was dating her because of her uncanny resemblance to Llona! eeek
llona:
hahahahahahahah!
i'm sure you explained that was not the case.
xo

shiva8:
hey kid! yknow... seems to be happening a lot lately. SG identities being discovered. I've had friends here who have had relationships nearly ruined because of it. Seems so silly.

So were you dating her for that reason?? wink

What's going on in CA? Is it parties all the time like all these LAers would have us believe?

Wow, gone for nearly a week and I have only 2 comments?

Fine. See if I ever invite you over to my place. mad

How is LA?! tongue

(next time I will try reading back entries)

Yeah, american tv is shit, don't get cable. Can I come and live with you in your other apartment? I am very clean. Unfortunately, I cannot cook longaniza. I could probably do adobo at knife-point, though. wink tongue kiss

It suddenly struck me today that I WORK FOR ELECTRONIC ARTS.

In other news, I've found an apartment in Los Angeles. It's a 2 bedroom place with 2 full bathrooms for less than $1000 per month. It's about 10 minutes drive south of Beverly Hills. How cool is that?

I've also decided not to get cable TV. American programming is making me stupid with each...

Wow, that bit about the apartment... I'm suddenly WAY glad to be living in the middle of nowhere. I had to think really hard to decide if an incredibly convenient apartment with water, gas, and electricity included in the rent was worth $400 a month. Cray-z.
But on the other hand, I bet it would be a lot more fun to live there.
Also, kudos on the no cable. Apart from one show, TV is worthless.
llona:
cool! so you're there and getting settled. that's great.
cable television sucks. I don't have cable, either.

ninjas are cool.

I'm in Los Angeles now. Actually, Marina Del Rey. I don't have 'Net access at the apartment, so I'm writing this entry at Kinko's. I've minimized the window so the pictures of the naked people won't offend the old lady in the next kiosk.

Friday was my last full day in Toronto. I had lunch with my mom and my older sister. Afterwards, my sister...

sounds rough. i hate good byes. you know now that you're gone you'll be surprised how well you all get along with each other -- you and you siblings that is. i haven't lived near my fam for about ten years now but sometimes i think we appreciate each other more because of it. good luck with your new life. takes a lot of guts to just up and start over like that. i admire people who can do it. kiss

oh...and i love that song.
llona:
now i'm gonna start crying. thanks.
i was thinking about you this morning, wondering how you were doing.
change is hard and i think you're brave as hell.

which martial arts discipline do you study?
