the comments people are leaving about the thread with this video really makes me worried where this nation is heading... I am also not too surprised by their reactions since usually for progressives the answer is always just one more turn of the wheel of more government and spending.

you go apply, they take your resume, ask you some questions, you take some tests on programs you know (microsoft word, excel, phone systems, etc) here is the tricky part: the tests are actually sim programs OF the programs youre testing. so, you can not use shortcuts. still not that hard; I scored high on excel when i had little experience.

then they give you a counselor based on your skills. you call into the counselor daily in the morning if youre looking for work. assignments go for days/weeks/ months. no benefits unless you work a really long stretch of 35 hour weeks at one assignment (like 8-12 months?)

lotsa people out of work right now, but a lot of companies probably trying to get by on temps.

Lead with that. I hire people back from Iraq as a priority. Find out what the local guard unit is. Talk to those folks and find out if they can steer you towards work.

Use every contact you can scrounge.

Go the temp route. I am trying to find the name and number of the vendor we used but am having no luck. (I cleaned out my contacts list after I was JD.) But you should try to find a firm that will place you with large companies - conditions are better.

Are you looking for full-time or part? If it is part-time then ignore my advice above. For part-time work try your university or consider something like bank-teller. Good luck and have a happy New Year.

Everything that sounds remotely interesting on craigslist is part-time and pays nothing. I'm thankful I have my job but some aspects of it are definitely mind-numbing. You know how that is, dealing with the public and all. Good luck!
