Driving through South Dakota, she'd been explaining to me how someone had recently given her a mix CD with one of the songs from the Mike Doughty album we were listening to. (She had many admirers, and a shelf to keep all the mixes she was given.) The fellow had told her that ths song summed up everything he felt about her. It wasn't the...

Eep! That's one hell of a sincere entry. (Not my usual style at all. wink ) You know, in retrospect, I'd have to say that I left out some feelings of that moment. While writing it I got pleasantly wrapped up in my thoughts of that girl, but there was also some other stuff going on that time--that weird hopeful/nervous feeling of being at a new point in your life (moving from chicago to portland), the dislocation of being on a long road trip, the pleasure of being on a journey, etc.
nixon:
Not to disturb the profoundness of your entry- but buboes make me laugh. BWHAAAA

"And someone's a-grabbin' ma butt."

We had pumpkin carving night at my house last week--I hadn't done that since I was 12. It was really fun and the smell of pumplin viscera brought back all these memories of childhood. Good stuff, those memories.

Speaking of memories--I lay in bed the other day just waking up and before opening my eyes, I thought about what my...

the insides of pumpkins smell like YUCK...
YUCK can be equated to the following...
rubber gloves
rubber chickens
molded cheese
crusted feet...

thank you for your time...

That motley drama--oh, be sure
It will not be forgot!
With its Phantom chased for evermore,
By a crowd that seize it not,
And much of Madness, and more of Sin,
And Horror the soul of the plot.

But see, amid the mimic rout
A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
The Scenic solitude
It writhes!--it writhes!--with mortal pangs
The mimes...

I'm in a very odd state of mind, having just ehard about Elliott Smith's death. It makes me very sad, both for and him and for myself--for the selfish reason that I was looking forward to decades more of his music and the more personal reason that it feels like some part of my past has died too. I never knew Elliott (though I met...

'Tis sad indeed.
I wish nothing but the best for you in PDX.
Perhaps Mrs. indigoboy and I now have an excuse to visit?
Sorry I missed you before you left. Let me know when you'll be in Chicago.

Life is a short walk in the sun with a long, cold sleep waiting for us at the end. All of which says to me: go ahead and get the lap dance, fool!

My new life in Portland is great so far: I'm seeing old friends and putting my new home in order while trying to rustle up a performance project to work on. I'm...

I'm back in Portland, having finished a 2500 mile road trip with my friend L. It was tiring, but we had a truly EPIC amount of fun. Bars, diners, mountains, robots, battlefields, a mock stonehenge and lots and lots of pie are some of the things that featured heavily in our travels.

Now with pictures! See nos. 1 through 8 in my pics.

Welcome back. biggrin

robots and pie? KICK ASS

Busiest... week... ever... at least since the last time I left town. I'm driving out on Saturday taking a meandering road trip (with L, my friend who I adore) back to PDX.

However, for those still staying in Chicago: I gotta recommend checking out the homemade mango ice cream at the Viceroy of India on Devon. Man, that's some great ice cream!

Currently Listening to...

So, I'm buying a car from a friend to make my drive from Chicago to Portland in October. As this car (a 92 Ford Explorer--not exactly my style, but it'll get me there) is a manual, I've got to learn to drive stick. I got my first lesson tonight and spent an hour driving in circles in a parking lot trying to perfect the art...

Learning to drive a stick is tricky ... but after you get the hang of it, it's FAR better than automatic. There's a greater feeling of involvement, and dare I say accomplishment. I'm temporarily living with L ... you should come visit some time soon smile

Worst... hangover... ever...

I did some truly stupid things last night. But I'm trying to forget about that and carpe some diem here. (Though admittedl my diem is rather headachey and queasy.)

I leave Oct. 4 to drive back to Portland with a friend of mine. I'm excited beyond measure at the prospect of all the fun we'll have on our little adventure. Any suggestions...

I'm returning to Chicago tomorrow where I'll spend the month of September. Hoever, first week of October I'll be heading back here (possible on a road trip!) for good. Or for bad. We'll see... whatever
