I got my futon set up. The matress is so fucking comfy....9" thick and spring filled. My girl and I slept on it last night and it was so much more comfy than my bed.
I get to read The Art of Courtly Love by Andreas Capellanus some time before tomorrow morning.

Opening day is my favorite day of the year.
My Reds lost, which sucks. But the Cubs put a whoopin' on the Mets and that was good to see. Maybe Dusty can pull the troops together and actually get them to play somewhat up to their potential. The Braves got fucking spanked by the Expos, few things are better than seeing the Braves get trounced....

opening day was way cold! did you get to Comerica Park?
crispy:
That snow in Baltimore was unbelievable ... you couldn't see twenty feet ahead of you. Funky weather.
I had a blast ... I saw four games, all Phillies.
03/25 - Phils get shut out by the Yanks in Tampa.
03/26 - Phils beat the Jays in Clearwater.
03/27 - Phils get shut out (and no-hit) by the Rays in Clearwater.
03/28 - Phils get shut out in Clearwater.
That last game was the final MLB game in Jack Russell Memorial Stadium. The Phillies have played there since 1955, and have been in Clearwater since 1947 ... longest (or maybe second) affiliation in the league.
Following the game, the Tiki Bar contained within the park was flooded with people. An hour or so later, all that remained were a handful of hardcore fans, and a good number of hardcore baseball people ... players, broadcasters, executives, coaches, local sports personalities ... it was pretty sweet.
Free beer (at that point they had given up) and access to the people closest to the game? You've got to be kidding me!
At one point, I sarcastically mention my run of games (4 games/3 shutouts) and they jumped all over me. Larry Andersen (former relief pitcher and current broadcaster), Ruben Amaro, Jr. (Asst. GM), Greg Gross (hitting coach), Todd Pratt (backup catcher), and Scott Graham (broadcaster) all came to the consensus that I shouldn't go to Friday's home opener.
Andersen was particularly amusing. He called me an asshole no less than three times - I called him a washed up has-been and continuously brought up and laughed at the fact that he was once traded for Jeff Bagwell.
Good times. Tons of stories.
Yay for vacation!!

My girl came over last night. We had about a three hour discussion about all the things I was ranting about in my last entry on here. We talked everything out. Things are better now. We're staying together.

Wow.. i just went back and read your last enty.. one of the few i've missed. So were you just in a really bad mood.. cause you seemed pretty sure that this was not a good thing to be doing just a little while ago? I guess a good chat can cure alot of things.. I hope everything turns out good for you.
By the way I didn't wear my shirt today cause it was to frickin cold to not wear a sweetshirt and well since its such a cool shirt I can't possibly wear it covered up.

So I went to see RENT for the third time. I love that show. My parents didn't like it very much, but my brother did except for a few parts. I got dragged to the bar by my bestest friend in the whole world. Her sister (who I kinda dated briefly about 6 years ago) showed up along with a couple other people and we...

Good luck on the testing, let me know what happens...i hope you're okay. This is no comfort, but out of all the STDs out there, HPV is usually one of the least harmless, at least for men. For women it can be very scary because it gives you a risk for cervical cancer. But you can have HPV and never have a single wart for your entire life, and while you always have it, it's very treatable.
But here's hoping you don't have it at all.
And get away from her. She sounds WAY too needy. It's probably better for her that she doesn't attach to someone.

Even before the last bit, definitely get out of there. I dated a similar girl once and it was a huge, huge mistake. We had an argument because she asked me, a few weeks after we began dating, if I would drink champagne at the toast for our wedding, should we ever get married. Now, I don't drink at all--and when I tried champagne in my younger and more vulnerable years I didn't like it to begin with--and I told her no. There were tears involved because I was ruining the wedding she'd had her heart set on since she was a little girl . . .
That's not even taking into account the "why are we even talking about marriage to begin with" part of the conversation.
So. I'm pulling for you, dude.

I just got back into town.....I have to work in 2 minutes, but I already called and told them I would be late. I will have a better update tonight when I get home.....thrilling happenings in the world of Dave.....

Life just fucking confuses me sometimes. My old roommate was in town last night. A group of us got together and got coffee, then dinner, then back to a friend's house to hang out for awhile. It was a decent night. Most of my friends got to meet my girlfriend. She thinks they're weird....she also thinks they are a lot like me...hmmmmm.

Hey, I do remember Juliana Hatfield being on there--but I don't remember what she played. I don't remember Gordon Gano, though.

I bought two new movies today. Breakfast at Tiffany's one of my all-time favorite movies. And Cinema Paradiso which may be the best movie ever made.
I also bought a futon today. I won't get it until next week sometime though. I got it from this place to which I deliver pizza often. He always tips well and is a nice guy, so I figured...

I watched Cinema Paradiso for the first time last week--it's amazing. Amazingly amazing. But I've actually never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's . . . or any Woody Allen films either, and that always tends to shock and surprise other movie nerds.
So, I skipped class today. We had a test on Thursday. The last time we had a test we spent the entire next class period going over the test and listening to several people in the class whining constantly about their scores. I couldn't sit through that again. Also, we are reading Dante's Inferno right now and though I read The Divine Comedy a few...

I missed the Oscars. I was sad.
I haven't even heard who won what.

I'd love to go to grad school, but I won't be able to afford it because of how the student loan program works here... after X number of years you can't get any more government loans until you've started to pay off your old ones. Also I'm gonna be upwards of $50k in debt with my BA, so accumulating even more debt is probably unwise anyway...
I've heard UBC has really high standards for admissions, but it's a great school in a great city, if a bit expensive.

One of my neighbors is blasting Slippery When Wet.....I'm not sure what is sadder, that he is doing it or that I knew exactly what it was about three seconds into it.

I felt physically ill when Mike got booed... when I realized what he was saying and where he was going with it, I expected dead silence from the audience.
I tried to email him today to tell him how much ass he kicks, but it bounced back because his account is full. Fancy that...

The show rocked. Dynamite Boy didn't play. That sucked. They remind me of old Green Day, like Kerplunk! and 1,039...I love those albums. Anyway, I downloaded some Dynamite Boy and really enjoyed them so I was looking forward to seeing them, too bad they didn't play.

definitely not MUCH specific plot, but the book's full of stuff. it's really amazing once you quit trying to understand. that's what my thesis is about - how anyone can read ulysses if they don't try to do it like they'd read a normal book. normal books, you can assume you'll get most of it. ulysses, you're GOING to miss almost all of it. if you can just be ok with that instead of overly frustrated, it's a much more fun read. i think, anyway.
Pop. 1280 is about a small town sheriff in the deep south. He's lazy as hell and doesn't bother enforcing the law. He's also pretty stupid on the surface, but he stumbles into a couple of elaborate schemes to dispatch with people he finds inconvenient.
