I am glad that you got everything all fixed and out of the way. Saturday I had to fight to get a damn spark plug out. It didnt want to budge. I had to move away from it and breath before I just blew up from frustration. But it finally decided to come out after a few more tries.

i totally understand your frustration on the car issue. mine this weekend was wild as well.

I for one am in awe of your mechanical prowess.

It seems to me that you ought to be able to take some steel wool or put a buffing attachment on the rotary tool of your choice and polish out the corrosion on the inside of your 46 kichen aid mixer's bowl. If bowl bases are incompatible, and looks are not a consideration, it might be possible to reengineer to base of the crappy modern mixer's bowl to fit the old unit.

Suggestions:

working on tall stuff: stand on a milk crate. We did at every shop I've ever worked at.

Fan issues: if you don't have one, get a factory service manual with cmplete wiring diagram. It's worth the money and will come in handy many times. Witht he fan installed figure out if you're actually getting power and ground when the fan is turned on. The fan may use switched ground instead of switched power or there may be a hidden relay or fusible link.

What year is your G-wagen? I subscribe to a private worldwide webserv for pro techs and can search by vehicle and symptom for fixes posted by other member techs.

Mixer corrosion: Mother's mag and aluminum polish ($5 for a jar from pep boys) works wonders but takes a lot of elbow grease. You can get a foam ball to attatch to a drill and polish it that way, after taking out the heavy corrosion with #0000 steel wool.

You got a G-wagen, you know what a Pinzgauer is, and you're working on your car...
